Al seminario CIFI emergono nuove proposte per la mobilità su ferro a Roma: potenziamento di metro, tram e ferrovie fino a una rete da 250 km e incremento della capacità complessiva del sistema di trasporto pubblico.

A Milano prende il via la maxi gara da 1,25 miliardi per il servizio di trasporto pubblico locale su bus e linee urbane.
Un’operazione che potrebbe avere effetti anche sui modelli futuri di gestione del TPL nelle grandi città, inclusa Roma.

Autobus in subaffidamento Atac: la livrea rosso amaranto diventa requisito essenziale per il servizio pubblico. Con la linea 075 ad Autoservizi Troiani e il 772 al RTI Cilia/Miccolis, crescono i mezzi dedicati. Impiegati anche 5 Temsa Avenue Plus (A442-A446) del 2021.

Dopo 20 anni arriva un nuovo tram a Roma: nel tardo pomeriggio di oggi, martedì 3 marzo, giunge al porto di Civitavecchia il primo convoglio CAF Urbos costruito in Spagna per rinnovare la flotta tramviaria. Annuncio dell’assessore Eugenio Patané.

Dopo la sospensione del servizio, viene decisa la soppressione definitiva di tre fermate della linea 07 a Campo Ascolano, nel comune di Pomezia. Il provvedimento si inserisce nei tagli previsti dalla riforma del TPL del Litorale, dopo il confronto tra Ostia e Pomezia sul servizio invernale.

Trotta Bus Services ha vinto il ricorso al TAR contro Atac sui subaffidamenti “strutturali” delle linee bus fino al 31 dicembre 2027. Annullati i contratti relativi ai due lotti oggetto di contenzioso. Una decisione che incide sull’assetto del servizio automobilistico romano.

Il Ministero delle Infrastrutture e dei Trasporti rinnova lo stanziamento del Piano Strategico Nazionale della Mobilità Sostenibile: 750 milioni di euro destinati al rinnovo delle flotte di autobus del TPL, con l’obiettivo di ridurre emissioni e aumentare l’efficienza del servizio.

Prosegue nel Lazio l’affidamento delle Unità di Rete del TPL. Astral ha aggiudicato i lotti 1 (Tirreno Nord) e 7 (Reatino): il primo a BIS per 60,5 milioni di euro, il secondo al RTI Autoservizi Troiani–Beebus per 22,8 milioni. Entrambe le offerte presentano un ribasso di circa il 15%.

The Toronto Public Library has a new web site and catalogue! It looks good! And they're using tpl.ca, which is very nice.
But it's behind Cloudflare, their catalogue is now at tpl.bibliocommons.com (not their own domain name), and my password is now invalid because it had spaces in it.

Jan 17, 2024"The Toronto Public #Library (#TPL) is in the final stages of recovering from a ransomware attack on October 28, 2023 that shut down the library’s internal network, website, and public computers. Although TPL managed to keep all of its 100 branches open and host programs throughout the ordeal, patrons were unable to access their library accounts online or use the library’s computers for more than two months. And while TPL has also continued to manually check out print books and other physical materials, the library has been unable to process holds or check the materials back in when they are returned.
“'We’ve got 12 53-foot tractor trailers filled with returns—well over a million items,' Toronto’s City Librarian Vickery Bowles told LJ in early January. 'Ransomware is becoming so pervasive, and it’s affecting organizations dedicated to community well-being such as hospitals, schools, and libraries, of course. I really feel that #PublicSector organizations are becoming targets.”
"According to the '2023 Palo Alto Networks Canada Ransomware Barometer' report, which includes analysis of a survey of IT professionals conducted by Angus Reid Group, 35 percent of Canadian businesses with at least 100 employees were hit by ransomware attacks during the past year. Fifty-eight percent of those businesses needed more than a month to recover from an attack, while 24 percent took longer than four months. The report notes that cyber criminals appear to be targeting manufacturing businesses 'significantly more' than other types of Canadian businesses and institutions, but “today’s threat actors do not discriminate against specific industries.” In fact, the #BritishLibrary was hit with a separate ransomware attack on the same day as TPL last fall, the #LondonPublicLibrary in #Ontario was attacked in December, and the #TorontoZoo was attacked earlier this month.
“'In the case of #PublicLibraries, I think [#CyberAttacks] are particularly troublesome, because we’re dedicated to equality and access to information and intellectual freedom and openness to all,' Bowles said, adding that this attack has impacted people throughout the community, especially patrons who rely on TPL for access to public computers and other technology. 'I think this represents an attack on the very essence of civil society. That's what I think is really troubling about all this—when I hear about the impact this is having on people like students, #lowincome communities, youth, #jobseekers, [people] who don’t have any other resources other than what the library can offer. It’s just heartbreaking.'"

Trekking through tribal lands as the #PenobscotNation plans to reacquire 30,000 acres
[Many] see the land return as an opportunity to reconsider what conservation looks like. Studies have found that #Indigenous-managed lands have #biodiversity levels equal to or greater than protected lands, and conservationists have become increasingly interested in what is known as #TraditionalEcologicalKnowledge.

"The parcel would create a contiguous stretch of conserved land from existing Penobscot Nation holdings near the East Branch of the #PenobscotRiver all the way to #Jackman and #MooseheadLake, combining to form 1.2 million acres.
"The land — which is being called #Wasehtek, a Penobscot word that corresponds to the #EastBranch of the Penobscot River — was owned by Conservation Resources, a #timber investment management organization. In December 2022, the Trust for Public Land announced it had purchased the property for approximately $29 million.
"The land is currently accessed by a limited network of logging roads, which vary in quality. With over 53 miles of rivers and streams, and a diverse population of game species, the land offers substantial fishing and hunting opportunities.
"This move in northern #Maine fits into a nationwide effort to return ancestral lands to #Native tribes. The federal Land Buy-Back Program for #TribalNations, a decade-long initiative that concluded in December [2023], restored nearly 3 million acres to tribal ownership and paid over $1.69 billion to individuals."
