CW: Toxic culture at the gym
Getting closer to the summer period I'm used seeing more and more peeps running to the gym in a hurry to get in shape for the bikini/trunk season.
Honestly? It's not that bad! The only counterpart is that you have to wait a bit more for a machine or doing an exercise, no biggie; in fact, you can switch and don't let your body get used to the same movement over and over.
Anyway, most of these people get welcomed by "regulars" talking and joking about them behind their backs, which is an awful demonstration of the toxic culture at the gym.
Exhibit A: the last week a young girl came and was wearing a sorta gym veil to cover their hair (I don't recall the specific name of the veil, sorry). Quite normal, isn't it? Well, she was welcomed by smirks and some of the "regulars" talking about how it was becoming more and more of a SPA and they should start coming with their shower caps too.
FUCK.
THIS.Exhibit B: I was about to shower this morning after working out and a "regular" came into the locker room, tried to pick up a beef with me because I chose "their shower stall". After telling them that I was alone in the locker room earlier and that we were in a public place they proceeded to storm out the locker room slamming the door.
FUCK.
THIS.And fuck general bullying.
I won't be silent anymore, this has to stop.

Toxic #Filipino parenting culture: not giving your kids the chance to explain themselves whenever they make mistakes or don't agree with you. Instead, you just yell at them and worse, call them names.
If the intention is to make them fear you so that they don't make the same mistake again, maybe it will work. But in the long run, it can lead to #trauma that can haunt them even in adulthood.

CW: A rant… I regret helping people who are not strangers.
(#rant) I don't like seeing posts about “toxic culture this and that”, but I've reached the point that I can no longer deny one particular thing:
Toxic #Filipino culture: You helped them when they needed help. Even though you can't, they'll beg you so you go out of your way to help them. NOW, when it is you that needs help, NOT A SINGLE ONE of those people will help you. If you beg them, they'll tell you, “You're not the only one going through this and that”.
Have they forgotten?
1. When they asked me/us for help, we helped them.
2. When I/we told them we really can't, they still begged, so we asked people we know so we can help them. We went out of our way.Have they forgotten? Or, are they simply selfish, privileged, ungrateful, earthlings?
Their argument that, “you're not the only one going through this and that” is 100% invalid, because when they were in need, we went reached out to whoever and became the bridge for them.
BUT they can not do that for you when it's your turn to ask for help. They have the guts to turn you into a bad, demanding, person.
Have they forgotten?
I am not saying that all Filipinos are like that. It is probably common in other cultures as well. But, in the spirit of #ToxicCulture “memes” (if we can call it that), it is a common one.
Don't get me wrong, I am Filipino, I was born, raised, and still living in the #Philippines. However, this is totally toxic.
I'm at that point wherein I will more likely never help anyone ever again. At least not the people in my immediate vicinity. I'd rather help random strangers, or some charity, who deserves to receive help far more than people who turns their backs on you after getting what they want.
To clarify, I'm only referring to those I/we've helped before, especially those where we had to find ways __for__ them to get help.
As a famous Filipino proverb goes, (rough translation) “those who don't look to where they came from, are worse than a stinking fish”. And they are indeed worse than a stinking fish.
Oh, one more thing, some of these people, I did not ask that they pay me back, some I wrote it off because I've seen first hand what they're going through. But, the position is reversed now, and nothing from them whatsoever. They even made me feel that what I'm asking them is a grave sin worthy of a death penalty. #ShameOnYou
