Protip: If you travel to smaller cities in Japan, be prepared for the 'disposable washcloth'.

These are less like towels are more like scarfs made of webbing. They are individually packaged & placed in your bathrooms.

I didn't like these. They're difficult to hold in your hand & don't retain soap well. While in Imabari (the city known for their cotton towels) I bought 3 washcloths because we ran into 5 hotels (out of 8) that had these things.
