I feel we are just paying lip service to appease those suffering from the Disneyland-ification of #Spain. Every year since just about forever, the tourist volumes hit a new record. Our aim should be to wind that back to, say, 1999 numbers, with all remaining tourists paying a meaningful daily tax. Ban rentals under 2 weeks. Spain will not go bankrupt, far from it. Fewer tourists, more revenue, free up housing to be homes. Win-win.

Overtourism turns every destination into a Dubai clone. Expensive, bland, Instagram-obsessed, culturally sterile and boring. What remains is only appealing to those to whom a holiday in Dubai sounds like a Great Idea.
The very act of visiting an over touristed destination contributes to its #enshittification in so many ways.

I just paid per person per night tourist tax in a hotel in Palma de Mallorca. €2.20.
Firstly, note that it exists (not just Cataluña!).
Secondly, it's ridiculously low. It could and should be at least twice that.
