I laughed out loud when I heard Poillievre actually say:
"I'm a strong leader, I'm a tough guy to deal with”
Guy sounds like Dan Aykroyd, but funny in a different way.
We all know... dudes who feel like they have to say they're "strong" and “tough” are really neither. They're just Bullies and Cowards.
Just like Trump.

CW: It's Tough Guy Day! So here are some pretty basic thoughts on A Long Petal of the Sea, Augusts book. (spoilers, maybe?)
I'd never heard of this book, or this author, before heading into this one. I kinda like that, in a way. No expectations and no previous exposure to tarnish any ideas I might have had.
First of all, I really liked this book.
The characters felt real to me. I thought how they acted to new information was consistent and made sense, even if I would have done something different.
I am a fan of using real historical events to frame a narrative, and I found myself on wikipedia as I read, not in a fact-check kind of way, just a "was this person real too?" kind of way.
The way the relationship between Victor and Roser developed was touching and bittersweet. Seeing the son, who's name escapes me right now, be totally different to both of them, yet incredibly similar in so many ways was easily my pick of the book. Aside from Roser herself, who has made it high on the list of Favourite Fictional Characters.
As a side note, I'm glad there was no other antagonists besides the history happening around them. Even when there was conflict with Ofelia, she was never The Bad Guy, and you felt for her as much as Victor.
Definitely worth the read.
