  1. I think what hurts the #QR payment method branding the most is how even when it's advertised as it just works, even across countries, it's not that uncommon for there to be some weird gotchas.

For example, even within Malaysia itself, dumbasses like
#TouchNGo loves 'gatekeeping' some QR payment options to only work with their e-Wallet and not the national standard, #DuitNow. In other cases, there might be instances where you'd think paying to this QR would work when that QR works and they all look the same - turns out that's not the case cos one's a merchant QR and the other's a personal QR. Pretty fucking dumb and unnecessary distinction/incompatibility (imo).

Same experience when going abroad e.g. Thailand. Some QRs, you could make payments to it. Other QRs, even when they're branding the same 'logo' e.g.
#ThaiQR, it ends up not working cos of some arbitrary distinction. They really gotta fix this. Now, I'm wondering if it's the same experience for travellers coming to Indonesia.. I gotta find a 'merchant' QR and a 'personal' QR to see if I could scan and make payments to them.

  6. #Prasarana/#MRT are hellbent on not supporting card payments on their ticket gates, huh - so we could stop using #TouchNGo like a friggin pleb and use #Apple/#Google Pay instead as one would do in the 21st century. Even the ancient #KTMB trains have long supported this option. Noobs.

  11. Oh, also, the #Setel app’s street parking feature’s nice too. It supports paying for parking in multiple city councils if not all of em - some of em not even supported on #TouchNGo ’s (shitty) #TnGeWallet app. It’s also handy enough to tell u if u don’t gotta pay for parking. I also expect that you could pay for parking straight off of your card rather than needing to topup, unlike some other parking apps (including TnG I think).

  12. Yikes, don’t tell me that the MLFF toll system will be tied exclusively to #TouchNGo/#TnGeWallet.. it’d be a massive downgrade for us to FINALLY support NFC-based (bank) payment methods at the toll gates, instead of locking to only Touch N Go, and then go backwards from that when we have MLFF.

  13. If #Petronas is smart, given how successful the #Setel platform is, they would disassociate it from being exclusive to Petronas, and become a 'third party' instead that can go beyond Petronas. As it is, it has the potential to be a competitor to something like the #TnGeWallet, it may even be better since we all know #TouchNGo 's shit and is only loved by boomers.

  16. #KTMB, not only do they support #NFC card payments to go through their gates and hop on a train - they also charge nothing if you’re only passing through and exit at the same station, unlike #RapidKL which still charges you, and is still locked to using only #TouchNGo, which is pretty ridiculous.

Also I think it’s kind of a scam that you only get parking discounts at an
#MRT station if you ride the MRT, instead of any (train) commuters at a station that also serves other trains like #KTM and #ETS. KTMB ftw (we don’t talk abt their KTM train frequency tho).
