I'm sick of people excusing bigotry from older generations by blaming their cultural surroundings. I was raised right wing and I know its not for me to say but I believe I've deconstructed that upbringing.

I'm also vegan and anarchist and consider myself feminist antiracist anticolonial antiableist and antiageist. Again whether I live up to those ideals as much as I could is not for me to say as an ablebodied white person living in the imperial core but my point is that looking at the social aspect I understand what it means to be against hegemony, to invoke defensive judgment and to see the world and most of the people in it in a very depressing and unflattering lens.

It's not *easy* to oppose hegemony. But it's also not *complicated*. Just the same as there were always anti slavery activists, and suffragettes and anticolonialists.
