I’m reviewing a review manuscript littered with odd English expressions (including nonsensical versions of medical terms and chemical names). These could be tortured phrases (telltale signs of authors trying to hide plagiarised text), but they could also be poor but innocent translations of text first written by the authors in Chinese. Any suggestions how to distinguish those - is that’s even possible?
