With the Eglinton Crosstown supposedly finally opening today, here's your periodic reminder that the Sheppard East LRT would have been in revenue service for twelve years by now, and ALL SIX of the original Transit City LRT lines would already be operating today.
The Crosstown itself was supposed to open in 2020.

The Many Problems of “Transit City”
A lengthy blog post
"As Rob Ford cancelled this plan right when he was elected, there is a strong sense that since this mayor that embarrassed Toronto was a major Conservative figure in what is a progressive city, then the plan he cancelled should be defended and must be pretty good."
TLDR Actually no - it wasn't

When it comes to doing public transportation right in the GTA, the sheer incompetence (coupled with arrogance) of all the players is ubiquitous and never ending. The utter failure on the transit file, and the constantly increasing congestion (the logical result of a car-centric culture) is sending Toronto to its doom. It’s like watching a Maple Leafs season in slow motion. https://toronto.citynews.ca/2024/10/01/toronto-finch-west-eglinton-crosstown-lrt-projects-update/

Alarming tidbit buried in the contract for repairs to the #StClairWest station streetcar track loop. Does the #TTC really believe the lifespan of streetcar tracks is only 15 years? That seems very short, especially for track that is indoors, sheltered from the winter.

It’s almost the 2 month anniversary of when #metrolinx said they would give us an update every 2 months on the #EglintonCrosstownLRT.
If Phil Verster wakes up on Nov 27 and doesn’t see the shadow of his $850K salary, does that mean we will have 6 more years of construction?

The start of this article says “Beginning Fall, 2023…” should be changed to “ Beginning right now…
How come we aren’t starting on the dedicated busway option today? $3 million for 30,000 riders seems like small change for the half a billion we are paying for the same number of drivers to rebuild the Gardiner.
