The city says it can’t find land for micro shelters, so #TinyTinyHomes found its own. Now the non-profit is fundraising to build a 10-shelter community by the end of the year

Membership Levels
The membership structure consists of three levels. All three membership levels pay the same monthly dues of $60 plus #HST with different privileges for each membership level. We have a minimum 2 month membership period meaning your first and last month’s membership fees will be charged upon signup ($120 plus HST). Storage lockers are available at an additional monthly fee."

The community or agencies manage the gardens, and some gardens have designated plots that are collectively maintained, with harvests donated to local community food organizations. "Allotment plots and benches can be booked by residents who wish to grow vegetables and flowers for their personal use. Each plot/bench is located within an Allotment Garden or greenhouse that the City of Toronto manages.
Outdoor allotments are open from the beginning of March to mid-November and are closed from mid-November to the end of February. Indoor allotments are open from the beginning of October to mid-May and are closed from mid-May to the end of September."

About the Little Free Pantries Project
"Give what you can. Take what you need. Working together for a better future!
It is estimated that #FoodInsecurity affects almost 1 in 5 Toronto households (18.5%). Toronto Little Free Pantry Project’s objective is to address this need on a local level and ultimately make our city a better place. We are communities coming together, building, hosting and stocking #LittleFreePantries in order to help those in need amongst us.
Please consider giving to a Little Free Pantry in your area. Suggested items are canned foods, dry pasta, tomato sauce, rice, beans, cereal, granola bars, hygiene products. Click here or here for Daily Bread Food Bank’s list of high demand items.
Please do not leave perishables or expired items. Please do not leave baby formula in extreme hot or cold temperatures.
If you have materials which might be used or repurposed for building a pantry and may wish to donate these, please contact us using the form below.
If you are skilled in carpentry and/or have equipment or space which could be used to create pantries, please contact us using the form below. We have established a waitlist of interested hosts who need help to build their pantries. Typically the host would cover the cost of materials and labour.

Please advise us when your pantry is operational so we can add it to the map! The locations are published in order to help community members find pantries to give or take items. Host names are not included
For those in need
Please take from the Free Little Pantries with love from your neighbours. If you find yourself in need regularly, know that your community is here to help. There are local food banks able to provide you with more substantial and nutritious supplies of food designed to meet the specific needs of you (and your family).

Excerpt: "In winter, the city expands its shelter system — squeezing additional beds into existing shelters, opening up warming centres once temperatures plunge below -5 C, and letting people shelter in contingency spaces such as shelter meeting rooms once temperatures reach -15 C.
"These sites save lives, says Cathy Crowe, a longtime street nurse and homeless advocate in Toronto. But as those facilities, too, are often at or beyond capacity — and people continue to seek refuge in public spaces like transit stations — she sees a city continually unprepared for extreme weather, with safety nets like the shelter system still unable to catch everyone in need.

"[Unhoused person, Douglas Watt] sees the #CostOfLiving, and #housing, as another major force. 'It’s hard for people to live, and keep up,' he said, noting he relied on disability supports that don’t offer much to cover expenses.
"He used to live with family members outside the GTA, but said they were facing health battles and he didn’t want to add to their stress. So he made the choice to leave without a place to land.
"One shelter in Halton turned him away for lack of room, he said. Some nights, he sleeps at GO stations in Burlington and Oakville. Asked if he’d looked for shelter in Toronto, Watt said he worried about having his possessions stolen.
" 'I’ll be honest with you, shelters are even worse than being on the streets sometimes,' he said."

"I’m used to city councillors fighting hard for their communities — whether it’s for transit, schools, safe roads, libraries or parks — but none of them questioned why their Scarborough, East York, York, North York or Etobicoke wards had no cool centres.
"Instead, it appears they believe a single 24/7 cooling centre, likely operating in the lobby at Metro Hall, will be sufficient for everyone needing respite across a city that spans 43 km east to west and 21 km north to south. This despite the city’s own 2024 Street Needs Assessment that counted more than 1,600 people living outside and shelter data that documented more than 150 people per day denied shelter due to lack of space.
Toronto has botched its approaches to protect vulnerable people during extreme weather."
