  1. This week's #ThursdayFiveList theme is #OdeToMelancholy. Regardless of genre, the mainstream Finnish popular music is full of melancholic songs:

    Olavi Virta: Hopeinen kuu (1960)

    Reijo Taipale: Satumaa (1964)

  2. The Finnish guitarist, band leader and arranger Esa Pulliainen (1957-2026) passed away on Saturday. Although he was widely imitated, no one could really replicate his sound and his sense of style.

Since his band, the Agents, recorded newly arranged versions of old tunes, there is a lot of great material for #MondayCovers among their repertoire. They reached the peak of their popularity in the mid-eighties with vocalist Topi Sorsakoski - this was one of their biggest hits:

The song was originally recorded in 1965 as "My Heart Must Do the Crying" by the Renegades, a British group that was hugely popular in Finland at the time. The first Finnish-language version was done by Danny in 1966.

  3. Vaihteeksi sellainen rentouttava "Rähjään saatana aivan kaikille" iltalenkki. Topi käyttäytyi aiemmin ihan mallikkaasti. Pääsi tyttökavereiden kanssa yhteislenkillekin. Vaan eihän sitä koko päivää jaksa. #koiramastodon #shetlanninlammaskoira #topisorsakoski

  4. This week’s #ThursdayFiveList theme is #supportyourlocals

Olli Haavisto is one of the musicians that you regularly see at local events in my present home town, Järvenpää. Over the years, he has played with many of the Finnish top artists - in this video, he appears as a guest playing steel guitar:

There's a nearly endless amount of excellent Finnish music, so to fill the rest of my list, I just picked four random classics from the past years:

    Melrose: Rich Little Bitch (1986)

Topi Sorsakoski & the Agents: Salattu Suru (1985)

    22-Pistepirkko: Birdy (1992)
