  3. MRCA and LA County Fire Department TO CONDUCT Topanga Canyon Pile Burn for WILDLIFE RISK REDUCTION April 17

The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA), in coordination with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, has scheduled a planned pile burn for Friday, April 17, from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM in the northern Topanga Canyon area near Mulholland Highway as part of ongoing wildfire risk reduction efforts.

Residents in Topanga Canyon and surrounding areas may see smoke during the operation. Individuals sensitive to smoke should be advised that there is the potential for smoke to linger in low-lying areas. Motorists in the area should also be aware of possible minor traffic delays or reduced visibility near the burn site.

A final go/no-go decision will be made on the afternoon of Thursday, April 16, based on weather and air quality conditions. The public will be notified once a final determination has been made.

This is a planned, controlled burn conducted by trained fire personnel. Crews will be on-site to monitor conditions and ensure the fire remains contained throughout the operation.

The MRCA notes that this project is targeted and limited in scope, focusing on previously disturbed material rather than broad-scale vegetation removal. This approach helps reduce erosion risks while supporting natural regeneration and maintaining ecological health.

  4. "Down by the River" is a song composed by #NeilYoung. It was first released on his 1969 album with #CrazyHorse, #EverybodyKnowsThisIsNowhere. Young explained the context of the story in the liner notes of his 1977 anthology album #Decade, stating that he wrote "Down by the River", "#CinnamonGirl" and "#CowgirlInTheSand" while delirious in bed in #TopangaCanyon with a 103 °F (39 °C) fever.
