Three Greenpeace activists have been removed by police after protesting Fonterra’s shareholder meeting.
The activists set up a nitrate contamination tent and dumped two tonnes of simulated “toxic” slime at Fonterra HQ, forcing shareholders to walk through it, mirroring what many New Zealand communities are expected to live with as dairy pollution contaminates rivers and peoples' drinking water.

BREAKING! Fonterra HQ is under quarantine! Toxic slime is oozing out of the building’s main doors.
The building has been identified as ground zero of New Zealand’s nitrate crisis. So the Greenpeace nitrate emergency quarantine unit has shut down the building and installed decontamination tents to prevent the nitrate emergency from spreading further.

Local media is dropping the ball (again) by mostly failing to connect the extreme weather we've been experiencing to climate change, accelerated by methane and carbon emissions.
In NZ, the biggest source of pollution is agriculture and specifically the dairy industry, followed by transport.
The current government is failing to address this issue, and quite the opposite, making it much worse by bowing to the industry.
This connection needs to be made explicit.
Things will keep getting worse, infrastructure will need to be rebuilt over and over again, homes will be lost, and lives will be broken until we take meaningful action to rework our economy, energy and transport.The climate crisis is here and our heads are still in the sand.

That way we could reduce incentives for harmful activities AND have a pool of money ready to help those affected by climate disasters.
Instead our government is saying climate action is unnecessary, private profits are all that matter and if you get poisoned water, dead rivers, or lose everything in a flood or storm, you are on your own.
