A new Danish study has linked elevated levels of nitrate in drinking water to an increased risk of stomach cancer.
More reason to lower New Zealand’s nitrate limits, following studies that have linked low-level nitrate to risks of bowel cancer, dementia, and pre-term birth.

The equivalent of about 13,000 dairy cows’ effluent is pouring into the sea from Wellington’s waste water plant.
It’s disgusting.
But also, NZ has 6 MILLION dairy cows dumping untreated effluent on land and freshwater EVERY DAY and Luxon wants to increase that number.
Warning: There's no swimming in the Taieri River at Outram Glen due to "high bacteria levels." LAWA diplomatically notes, "Research shows that the source of bacteria in the water at this site is ruminant (sheep/cows)..."
Clue: it's not the sheep.
