Seit mehreren Tagen führen die syrischen Streitkräfte eine Offensive gegen die Syrischen Demokratischen Kräfte, die vorwiegend aus Kurden bestehen, in den von ihnen kontrollierten Gebieten im Nordosten des Landes. Mit der gewaltsamen Rückeroberung bestimmter Zonen übernimmt die Regierung in #Damaskus wieder die Verwaltung der Lager für Gefangene des Islamischen Staates und deren Angehörige.

Bislang waren die #Kurden für diese Lager zuständig, nachdem sie im Kampf gegen den IS eine zentrale Rolle gespielt hatten.

Nach Angaben des #US-Außenministeriums werden dort 9.000 mutmaßliche IS-Kämpfer festgehalten, darunter etwa ein Drittel Ausländer.
