At the time I decided to read the TBI policy paper on AI given that it was being used as a blueprint for some of Starmer’s government and was blown away at how bad it was. It was obvs co-authored with an AI company. It recognised there were a few problems with AIs - making mistakes and hallucinating - but suggested the answer was just more AI to to check the AI.
Anyway, the idea that a war criminal turned AI lobbyist is saying the UK doesn’t have enough growth because it’s not letting US AI firms rip up regulatory safeguards really shouldn’t be headline news.

"Once again, the debate is being framed around the affordability of support rather than the affordability of a broken economic model that is making people ill.
"... Social security exists because people sometimes need security that is otherwise unavailable to them. A civilised society would ask why demand is rising and address the cause. It does not simply move the goalposts and declare fewer people eligible for help."

Interestingly #Oracle have given the Tony Blair Institute loads or money, according to the speaker, which seemed quite an important fact, but not included in the slides.
Seems like a bit of a conflict of interest....

"The Tony Blair Institute (TBI) has been linked to a project widely condemned for proposing the ethnic cleansing of Gaza, involving a sweeping postwar redevelopment of the besieged Strip.
Plans include a “Trump Riviera” and infrastructure named after wealthy Gulf monarchs, according to documents reviewed by the Financial Times (FT) and revealed on Sunday.
The vision, outlined in a slide deck titled The Great Trust, was created by a group of Israeli businessmen with support from consultants at Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
BCG’s plan assumed that at least 25 percent of Palestinians would leave “voluntarily”, with most never returning. It remains unclear whether Palestinians would have any choice in the matter, but the proposal has been widely condemned as ethnic cleansing of the territory’s indigenous population.
The project aimed to transform the enclave which has been reduced to rubble by Israel into a lucrative investment hub. Central to the proposal were blockchain-based trade schemes, special economic zones with low taxes, and artificial islands modelled on Dubai’s coastline.
Although TBI insists it neither endorsed nor authored the slide, two of its staff members participated in discussions related to the initiative."

#KeirStarmer's response to #TonyBlair's unashamed #fossilfuel lobbying yesterday – #TonyBlairInstitute is funded by #SaudiArabia, Azerbaijan and others (not mentioned in Guardian's lead story) – is so asskissing fawning it's as if TBI wrote it.
Just before key elections where Labour are under real threat from the Greens, he could have distinguished himself from an AI & oil lobbyist. Instead he clicks heals with a 'yes boss' salute.
I try to stop moaning about him but he keeps dragging me back.
