  4. Long time ago, I met a group of people studying birds in France and one of them was warning about the decline of birds due to pollution, pesticide and loss of habitat could lead to increased insect infestation and loss of crops as well as many other issues I really don't remember.

That was almost 20 years ago. We still living in denial and ignoring the fact that our current lifestyle is not sustainable.

But, hey, the important thing is buying more junk, cutting more trees, building new housing projects and ignoring the existential danger to all lives on the planet.

  5. Due to the severe drought affecting the #Amazon, more than 130 pink #dolphins and #tucuxis (another type of freshwater dolphin) have been found dead in Lake Tefé, near the municipality of Tefé, just over 500 kilometers from #Manaus, the capital of the state of #Amazonas.

💥 In a statement posted on social media, the institute stated that the deaths of the pink dolphins and tucuxis began on Saturday, the 23rd, but the cause has not been confirmed yet. Technicians from the institute and government agencies are analyzing water quality and the deceased animals.

🚨 With the drought affecting the Amazon, several municipalities in the Amazonas state have declared a state of emergency in recent days. The state government has also expressed concerns about the possibility that the drought may impact the distribution of water and food to around 500,000 people.

  6. THE AMAZON IS BURNING: With nearly 7,000 wildfires reported by September 29, the state of Amazonas had its worst month of the year for wildfires

💥 It's the second-worst September on record since the historical series began in 1998, with only 2022 having a higher number of wildfires, with 8,600.

📊 These data come from the Fire Program of the National Institute for Space Research (INPE). In August, there were 5,500 wildfires in Amazonas, compared to an average of 3,532 for the month.

📉 INPE data also shows that there has been at least a reduction in deforestation in the region. By September 22, an area of 346 square kilometers had been devastated compared to almost 1,100 square kilometers recorded in September 2022.

🔥 Wildfires are even more common during this time of the year when rainfall decreases. However, this year, the region is experiencing severe drought conditions.
