De La Soul, Clear Lake Auditorium, 1994 on Tommy Boy

I love De La Soul, especially the first three albums – 3 Feet High and Rising, De La Soul is Dead, and Buhloone Mindstate. This EP was a promotional only release in 1994, which was widely bootlegged over the years, and includes 4 tracks from Buloone Mindstate plus two non-album tracks, one of which features A Tribe Called Quest.

My copy is the 2025 limited edition reissue & repress on translucent green vinyl, which was issued in a “gel” sleeve that actually contains liquid. I immediately re-sleeved, but of course kept the gel sleeve too.

This is their 3rd album and my personal favorite. It’s got the classic hiphop anthem “Hip Hop Hooray”, plus several other great tunes like “Written On Ya Kitten” and “Take It To Ya Face”.

Turn it up for track 2, “Ready for Dem”. A bouncy flow with infectious beats and humorous lyrics like “never short on loot cuz I got a fat grip”. Featuring guest artist Heavy D too.
