This morning's #workout #music is from Jean Michel Jarre doing a live performance of his landmark album Oxygene. Back in the late #70s and early #80s my friends and I were very into the #ElectronicMusic scene. I was a particular fan of #TangerineDream and #KlausSchulze and #Kraftwerk. Some of my friends tried to get me into Jarre and #Tomita but they never clicked for me. After reading an article recently on this album and its influence on #ambientTechno I thought I would give it another go. Meh. Still sits there flat and doesn't do anything for me for the most part. Some moments (particularly around 45 minutes in), but on the whole it just isn't my thing. YMMV

Do you like atmospheric synthy takes on classical music?
The host of awesome YouTube channel Curious Droid, Paul Shillito, has made an album, and it's great! He's apparently been fiddling about with old schooly synth music inspired by Isao Tomita for decades and now has enough tracks for an album. Pieces by Saint-Saëns, Debussy, Stravinsky, Sibelius etc.

Ich erinnere mich daran, dass wir "Bilder einer Ausstellung" damals™ (frühe bis mittlere 1980er) sogar ausführlich im Musikunterricht behandelt haben, darunter auch die Version von EL&P. Da hier auch schon die Freunde der elektrischen Musik geantwortet haben, möchte ich noch die "Verarbeitung" von Isao Tomita ergänzen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVvQQMrEUzQ Ich fand es damals so geil, dass ich mir gleich die LP gekauft habe.

@f_dion @vinylrecords Correction: the Prokofiev is on Bermuda Triangle - my mistake - it's been a while!
Also, there is a note on the sleeve that it was mastered in 5-channel pyramid sound, but as you say dropped back for release, so maybe there is no public 5-channel release (I guess how could there be!)

@f_dion @vinylrecords Ah yes. I love the Stravinsky and Prokofiev on the live album, but to my knowledge they didn't appear on a studio album...?
I do seem to recall some sleeve notes on Bermuda Triangle about there being a special surround sound-like version - I'll have to dig it out and check! :)
I guess that would have had to have been a special multi-track tape format or something at the time...

1/ Wegen meiner #ExperimenteMitHühnern habe ich ja neulich #Tomita gehört, und weil ich gerade dabei war, habe ich dann auch die alte Platte von #Pond aufgelegt (ha, ha, Platte). Sie heißt #Planetenwind.
Klingt ja alles ganz lustig der Planetenwind von 1982.
Aber: Schlechte Nachrichten: Auf dem #Mars wird es nicht lustig. Da sind lebensfeindliche Bedingungen.
UND: Wir dürfen eh nicht mit. Also Du und Du schon, weil Ihr so toll ausseht, aber ich und die anderen eben nicht.

1/ Neues aus der Reihe #ExperimenteMitHühnern. Es war ein totales Rambazamba im Hühnerstall. Nicht auszuhalten. Ich wollte einfach nur in Ruhe frühstücken. Ich dachte, ich probier mal was aus und es hat geklappt!!!!!
