I painted this little tanuki in my watercolor journal for #FolktaleWeek. He was the only picture on that page & he seemed so lonely! I sent him to visit Strega Nona. They’re having a pasta party! (This is a scene from the first book, where Big Anthony spies on Strega Nona so he can use her magic pasta pot)

Strega Nona has been one of my favorite #KidLit characters since I was small. She lives with Bambolona & Big Anthony. Everyone assumes they are Strega Nona’s kids, but they meet & form a family over many books. I love this example of a Family of Choice, aka Found Family

Tomie dePaola wrote &/or illustrated literally hundreds of picture books! My library has dozens of them! If it were possible to read too much dePaola, I would have hit that limit weeks ago! Happily, there is no such things as too much Tomie
