Now that's what I call a sticky situation. Peeling tomatillos from the garden. These were rescued before the mid week frost came through.

@Knightky and I put the garden to bed for the season. Surprisingly enough, there were ripe raspberries and one bean. I harvested the last of the rhubarb and am baking a pie to celebrate. I'm also cooking up some parsnip from the garden. I have about a cup of tomatillos and a few cups of green tomatoes. It's not *quite* time to put stuff out yet here in Zone 3, but I've been getting some things started in the #SIP bins under indoor lights - pictured are two kinds of sweet #peppers (I had amazing results in one of these bins last year with three pepper plants - creep my media) and those #Tomatillos I was talking about earlier - they're a bit spindly but they'll be okay.

Still have tomatoes cukes and melons to sort out and not enough bins...

Planted some tomatoes and tomatillo this morning after moving some sunflower seedlings. There was a bunch of 2 year old decomposed pine shavings mixed in too before I added some slow release nitrogen and some organic 3-5-4 (chicken compost and potash plus bacteria/myco).

They don't look great now but most of what's below the trellis comes off so it doesn't really matter. I haven't put the metal stake in they get tied too yet.

Ok so, regarding my #Tomatillos question earlier, I found this guy.

The gist is, unlike #Tomatoes, 'tillos cannot self-pollenate, so you *must* plant at least two together.

I can put the Verde and Purple together in the bin and each will produce their own cultivar's fruit, BUT...

if I save the seeds, they will be hybrid seeds. If I want to save seeds, I need to keep the two cultivars relatively distant, but if I can afford to buy more seeds, no biggie.

Hey #Gardening #Tomatillos

I have Super Verde and Purple tomatillo cultivars sprouted. Last year I put three generic green tomatillos from the supermarket in one of my SIP bins and it exploded, I was giving them away (haven't gotten brave enough to do canned salsa).

What I'm wondering is, can I put two green and one purple into a bin together, or will that result in some weird cross pollination?
