This evening I learned, to my great surprise, that Eärendil was a marina.

You know what really bugs me about Eru Iluvatar?
This mf knew Sauron was setting the Numenoreans up to get their asses kicked sailing west. But instead of having all the smoke for Sauron like a real G, he only shows up to whoop ass on the victims of deception.

The “extras” make a film or TV show for me. The definitive extras experience is the nearly 60 hours of additional material the makers of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films. My goodness, the artistic importance and mastery of craft embodied in those films, and the documentary recording of the entire thing is mind-boggling. Nothing greater in cinema will be made in my lifetime.

Just finished reading the Fellowship of the Ring out loud to my 11yo. The book has its flaws but boy is that last chapter good. For all that #Tolkein is sometimes regarded as a stuffy conservative, Frodo viewing the world from the top of Amon Hen is as fine a piece of mystical writing as you'll find. @bookstodon

I wish the Tolkien estate actually had control of their licensing. Predatory perpetual licenses should be illegal.
Unless it’s a book, none of the money goes to the Tolkien family.
Of course, copyright should only be ~50 years, but that’s a whole different problem.
