  1. It has been incredibly sad to watch this #NZPol govt default to racism, victim blaming and division as a way of distracting the #Aotearoa #NewZealand public from their colossal social and economic failures since taking control in late 2023.

As a pākehā NZer, born in the 60's, I have witnessed the slow but mana enhancing transition of this country in its attempts to right the wrongs of the past.

In many ways there's been efforts from both right and left politicians to #ToitūTeTiriti. No matter how inconsistent it has been it has always felt like slowly but surely the NZ public is becoming more aware of its obligations and failings of the past and moving forward.

Under this #Luxon led govt of neoliberal racist oligarch enthusiasts turning the clock back to a time before I was born, I no longer recognise the country I was born as Tāngāta Tiriti.

I want to know from #NZTwits how we collectively stop this from continuing and what we must do to turn this shit train around?

  2. This is a music video I did for an independent musician/producer friend in #Birmingham #UK for a local crew called #EmpressRoots that he wrote and produced this track for.

This video project began over 2 years ago and as the world continued to spiral towards oblivion the more manic my editing became. Having finished this video some time ago now, it's heartbreaking to see just how much more dire all our futures have become.

  3. The NZ Parliament website seems to be struggling.
I am going to guess everyone is submitting last minute and smashing that server's load.

If you are in line, stay in line!

  4. For the first time in NZ’s history, we could see corporations demanding taxpayer handouts from government for any environmental, health and safety, or cost of living protections that affect the use of their property… IF David Seymour's Regulatory Standards Bill passes.

There are now only 4 days left to submit. Do it now: greenpeace.nz/1c3hke

  5. It is now LESS THAN A WEEK to make your submission opposing the regulatory standards bill.
If you were moved to make a submission against the treaty principles bill and the fast track act but you haven't done one yet on the RSB then know this...
It is in effect those two nasty bills/acts rolled into one with the added truly disgusting libertarian idea that corporations should be compensated for rules that protect the environment, deal with climate change, stop forestry workers from dying on the job... etc etc.

This is how you do it:
    1. Head straight to the Government website.
    2. All you need to do is fill in the contact details they ask for, and then on the next page, make sure you write:

"I oppose the Regulatory Standards Bill. It should be thrown out immediately."

    P. S. Do not add “Boop beep boop, I'm not a bot, David Seymour, but are you?“ at the end because I already did.

  7. Very powerful koreo from Te Pāti Māori MP Tākuta Harris in defiance of the colonial government once again failing to honour the Crown’s obligations to #Māori, also strongly defending the mana of #Haka, #indigenous rights and #TeTiritiOWaitangi, the founding document of #Aotearoa #NewZealand.

The empty seats in #NZPol parliament for the next 21 sitting days will be a great reminder to the people of Aotearoa of the Crown’s continued failure to honour the Treaty of Waitangi and its efforts to silence any objectors.

Every NZer whether tangata whenua or tangata tiriti should be deeply ashamed to be represented by such dishonest and dishonourable people.

  8. @Ulan_KA @slanecartoon

Hi Ulan, the post is simply a link to the newspaper page displaying the cartoon published by the NZ Herald newspaper.
If you’re interested in the subject of the #NZPol government threatening the founding document of #Aotearoa #NewZealand #TeTiritiOWaitangi which is a treaty signed by a majority of #Māori rangatira (chiefs) and the British Crown to grant the right of British people to settle in NZ. Some other hashtags you could use to find out more are #TreatyPrinciplesBill #DavidSeymour #AtlasNetwork #Act #ToitūTeTiriti #TePātiMāori #TreatyOfWaitangi #Haka

  9. So do you suppose David Seymour's #Act Party were so keen to have Te Pāti Māori MP's jailed for performing a #haka because they didn't want them present as Seymour & Act attempt to rush their undemocratic and treacherous #RegulatoryStandardsBill through parliament under urgency?

Regardless of whether you support or oppose this treasonous bill, the dismantling of constitutional and democratic parliamentary process should alarm all #NZTwits. Perhaps #DavidSeymour sees this as a way of guaranteeing his ambition of bringing about a #CivilWar in #Aotearoa #NewZealand. #NZPol #AtlasNetwork #NZInitiative #TreatyOfWaitangi #TeTiritiOWaitangi #ToitūTeTiriti

  10. Excusing the use of AI this short summary of #TeTiritiOWaitangi and its relevance to the recent #Haka performed in parliament by Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, Rawiri Waititi and other MPs.in protest to the dishonorable colonial supremacist #TreatyPrinciplesBill being introduced into #Aotearoa #NewZealand parliament as a government bill, is a very good way of explaining the history of #Māori, tangata whenua (people of the land) and tangata tiriti (people of the treaty) and the failure of this #NZPol government to honour the treaty. #ToituTeTiriti

  11. It is critically important for all NZers to understand that, amongst other rights and resources, #TeTiritioWaitangi protects the right to water for all people of NZ. Privatisation of water is a key aim for the #AtlasNetwork funded #ACT Party and #NZPol govt. While the treaty principles remain intact this will not be legally possible. #ToitūTeTiriti #JohnathanPie #UKPol

  12. I recommend this video on the #DavidSeymour #ACTParty Treaty Principles Bill and Fast Track Bills also the #NZPol govt from US based Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan. I'm not sure how #Luxon defines NZ getting its #MOJO back but I'm pretty sure this ain't it.

Andrew Callaghan's seemingly objectivite approach of learning things unknown makes the entire story quite revealing with interviews with both Willie Jackson and Slimemore himself. #ToitūTeTiriti

  14. So far:

✅ Likely the largest single protest ever in Aotearoa NZ with the #hīkoi in Parliament

✅ Largest number of submissions on a single bill on the Treaty Principles Bill

And yet the political class still pretends this is a contested issue?

The astroturfing needs to be called out!

ASB and NZ Tennis need to be reminded that without #TeTiritiOWaitangi there’s no NZ #ASB Classic Tennis Tournament because there’s no #NewZealand.
Calling #TeTiriti controversial is calling into question #Aotearoa New Zealand’s existence, these people are such ignorant fools. #ToituTeTiriti

  16. The US public news show, #PBSNewsHour, had a good piece today on the current government of Aotearoa-NZ's attempts this year to roll back Māori rights, and the massive protests in opposition. It's good to see this story being covered in some depth internationally.

Did I recommend that it be abandoned and razed to the ground with salt sowed on its foundations?

  18. Tens of thousands rally at #NewZealand Parliament against bill to alter #IndigenousRights

An estimated 42,000 people gathered to oppose legislation that would reinterpret a 184-year-old treaty signed between the British and Indigenous #Maori.

    Nov. 19, 2024

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — "Tens of thousands of New Zealanders rallied in front of Parliament on Tuesday in one of the country’s largest ever #protests to oppose a bill, which opponents say seeks to dilute the rights of Maori and threatens to set race relations back decades.

"Massive crowds estimated by the police at 42,000 gathered at Parliament, where the #TreatyPrinciplesBill was introduced earlier this month by legislators who want to reinterpret a 184-year-old treaty signed between the British and #IndigenousMaori.

"While the bill lacks enough support to pass, critics see in it a desire to reverse decades of policies that aimed to empower Maori, who make up around 20% of the 5.3 million population but have higher levels of deprivation and incarceration and worse health outcomes than the broader population.

“'I’m here for my grandchildren, my children and for their children,' said #HoanaHadfield from Wellington, who was marching in a protest for the first time.

"'I think it’s important that we keep our #kaupapa, which is our values as Maori and our culture, and it’s a real big thing for us to have #CulturalIdentity.'

"Some people in the crowd were dressed in traditional attire with feathered headgear and cloaks and carried traditional Maori weapons, while others wore T-shirts emblazoned with #ToituTeTiriti (#HonorTheTreaty). Hundreds carried the Maori national flag.

"The protest was preceded by a nine-day march, or #hikoi, that began in the country’s far north, with thousands joining rallies in towns and cities as marchers traveled south on foot and in cars to Wellington.

"Unity and solidarity was spoken about a lot in the rally. #HelmutModlik, a leader in the Ngati Toa tribe, told the crowd that it was too late to divide the country.

“'To those who will divide us, whanau, it is too late. We are already one people,' Modlik said to cheers from those gathered on the lawns of Parliament.
Booming Indigenous Maori '#haka' chants rang out across New Zealand's capital on November 19, as thousands rallied against a conservative proposal accused of stoking racial divisions."

  19. This is some seriously impressive drone footage of the hīkoi: youtube.com/watch?v=LRJ_5dZZNI

My former colleague used it to estimate 40,000 people visible in the footage (excluding anyone already at Parliament House). This is a revision down from his previous estimate, but gels well with the estimates being reported in the media: bsky.app/profile/mathematiguy.
