  1. With well known affiliate of the #AtlasNetwork, leader of the #Act Party and currently #NZPol Deputy PM pushing for the disestablishment of the #Waitangi Tribunal I just looked up estimated total of #Māori land either stolen or confiscated by the #NZPol colonial govt.

The #Aotearoa #NewZealand government confiscated approximately 1.2 to 1.3 million hectares (about 3 million acres) of Māori land during the 1860s under the New Zealand Settlements Act 1863.

There's a great series of maps showing volume of Māori land stolen and/or confiscated between 1860 & 2000 on website below.

    Worth checking out.

Imo, David Seymour should be charged with failing to uphold the founding sovereign contract between Māori and the British Crown and conspiracy of land theft.

  2. CW: NZ: ACT will abolish the Waitangi Tribunal

    @BobLefridge

The fact that this #AtlasNetwork affiliated weasel is somehow trying to justify his actions to dismantle #TeTiritiOWaitangi and the Waitangi Tribunal on the grounds of protecting property rights is a very weak argument.

If in fact he was seriously concerned about protecting property rights he should be advocating for the return of all #indigenous #Māori land stolen by the government and demand that te Tiriti is honoured. #ToitūTeTiriti #NZPol

  3. @Salty

I might write a letter to Winston suggesting that instead of preventing permanent residents from voting we should have a system where everyone who wants to vote in the #Aotearoa #NewZealand #NZPol general election must sign an oath pledging to uphold the founding document of NZ te tiriti o Waitangi #ToituTeTiriti

  4. Amazing! More than 1000 schools have now said they will continue giving effect to Te Tiriti, despite the government removing Treaty obligations from the Education and Training Act. #ToitūTeTiriti #nzpol

  5. In response to #NZPol Erica Stanford's statement that #TeTiritiOWaitangi is the Crown's responsibility not teachers, I would simply say upholding and honoring te tiriti is the responsibility of every one who calls this whenua home.

  6. It has been incredibly sad to watch this #NZPol govt default to racism, victim blaming and division as a way of distracting the #Aotearoa #NewZealand public from their colossal social and economic failures since taking control in late 2023.

As a pākehā NZer, born in the 60's, I have witnessed the slow but mana enhancing transition of this country in its attempts to right the wrongs of the past.

In many ways there's been efforts from both right and left politicians to #ToitūTeTiriti. No matter how inconsistent it has been it has always felt like slowly but surely the NZ public is becoming more aware of its obligations and failings of the past and moving forward.

Under this #Luxon led govt of neoliberal racist oligarch enthusiasts turning the clock back to a time before I was born, I no longer recognise the country I was born as Tāngāta Tiriti.

I want to know from #NZTwits how we collectively stop this from continuing and what we must do to turn this shit train around?

  7. @adub

The desperate politics of division from this #NZPol govt is incredibly dangerous to the mana and well being of #Aotearoa #NewZealand.

This govt of cowards politicking on hatred and fear to turn NZers against each other is a shameful blight on this nation. Sure there's more than enough racism and white supremacy supporters to be of some value to these racist politicians but Māori are not now or have ever been an enemy to this whenuā.

Time for all NZers to stand up against this poison being normalised by traitors to te tiriti o Waitangi. #ToitūTeTiriti
