Good to hear on the Today programme that Road User Charging is being mooted… but it seems to have been broken via the right wing newspapers so they can have a good run to wind up resistance and prevent it from happening. “Watch this space”.

On the Today programme they just said that the basic rate of income tax hasn’t changed in 50 years. It certainly felt like it did in 2008 when the 10p “starting” rate was abolished (I definitely noticed!) and probably did in 1999 when it was introduced. Disingenuous reporting, what a surprise.

On #BBC4 #todayProgramme 14/10 there was a piece on the #UkraineWar about civilians evacuating their homes because of the Russian invasion. It was depressing, not just because it was an evacuation but there was the thinnest of contexts. This was the morning after more and new evidence of murdered, surrendered Ukrainian soldiers. @sy yes, that is v true. It’s not just him, of course, it’s the whole system - space exploration just another step in endless imperialist extractivist expansion. It’s very apt that the dream is to “colonise” Mars. We were all taught it’s about science, technology, joint human progress - and it was talked about excitedly in exactly these terms on #TodayProgramme this morning - but we should stop buying into this. It’s only for the few, majorly polluting, and completely stupid. #SpaceX #Mars
