@stonekettle. I am really struggling to understand this. Does the #media think it will be spared by its gross malfeasance and sycophancy? If nothing else, #CNN, the #NYT, #WaPo et al. should understand the principle of "self-interest rightly understood." If they can't bring themselves to protect the public (devastating and malicious as that is), surely they should think about protecting themselves!

But don't #Kavanaugh et al. understand that they are inviting their own undoing? I would encourage some of the #Supremes to go back to their #Tocqueville and read the part about self-interest rightly understood.

Beautiful review by Lynn Hunt of Olivier Zunz’s new biography of #Tocqueville. Worth remembering that Lynn’s account of the #French #Revolution in _Politics, Culture & Class_ is essentially Tocquevillian. And adding that Olivier gives the best account yet of Tocqueville in #Algeria, because he's not mystified by how the Great Liberal Thinker could so openly champion brutal colonial violence
