I was watching an anime called, "To Be Hero X".
Absolutely sucks.
The show starts by following Lin Ling — a nobody who dreams of becoming a hero. Tragically, his hero dies, and Lin Ling takes up his mantle. He eventually gets involved with a girl named Moon.
By the end of Episode 4, Moon dies right in front of him… and that’s the last we hear of it. The story completely shifts focus. It turns out the show is like American Horror Story — no continuous storyline, just new characters every few episodes.
This is the first 1-star review I’ve ever left on Crunchyroll.

I really enjoyed most of this show, apart from the last 5 minutes of the last episode where it was clear that they were definitely teasing another season.
Honestly, I hate when I reach the end of an anime season and I yell "that's *it*?????" at the TV. I get that they're trying to keep hype up for a second season, but my whole thing about waiting until an anime season ends before I start binging it is to not have to wait for plot lines to resolve.
But it really was an interesting take on the superhero genre, kind of like The Boys in that it doesn't take a lot for a hero to become a villain, or even a god.
And it's interesting that superpowers in this world stem from belief. If enough people believe in you, then you gain a superpower.
I imagine that X's reality-warping powers is the closest to god-like as hero powers get, and I couldn't help but think about One Piece and Luffy's Gear 5. Because once you get control of your opponent and your environment, all bets are off.
I wonder if that's why X's secret identity is just as an ordinary salaryman, to center and to ground himself in the most mundane reality.
I was really fascinated with the Arcane-esque CG animation, but when the visuals shifted to 2D, it was a little jarring, except there was definitely a reason for it. Not just because they were mostly flashback sequences for all the heroes, but because X can literally turn things into cartoons or videogame sprites. His influence is felt more as his popularity increases and he can literally create a better world.
Anyway i'm rambling and i really did enjoy this series, but i was let down by the lack of an ending.
I really should stop thinking that seasons are supposed to be cohesive wholes.

But, by gosh, that finale was a stinker. The runtime was half reminding us about lose plot threads they plan to address next season and half teasing reveals about new things for next season. Nothing was explained or resolved in any way. That'd be fine before a Christmas break length hiatus but we're going to have to wait until 2027 for the next season to start. #anime #donghua #ToBeHeroX #TBHX -

The scene of Ahu gaining his first trust was not the first time I cried during To Be Hero X but it is the one I least expected.
He's a circus performer dog. The episode is mostly a silly light hearted comedy about a girl saving the town from evil real estate developers. It should not be causing so many feels. #anime #donghua #ToBeHeroX -

I assume next week's fight will include Smile and Dragon Boy (or preferably Nice) punching each other so hard the shockwave shatters all the windows. There were enough other references to famous Superman fights that they can't possibly skip the Doomsday fight.

The number two hero, Queen, from #ToBeHeroX is amazing. They steal multiple episodes worth of budget to make sure whenever she is on screen, she is 100% badass.

I could probably keep gushing about To Be Hero X forever, but holy shit. Episode 20 does the seemingly impossible task of tying together most of the loose threads from the previous 7 character arcs. I can suddenly tell you why almost every character did almost every thing they did that seemed out of character at the time. The stuff that seemed too coincidental has explanations. And tons of moving parts came together.
We've got 4 episodes left with a much tighter focus on the remaining questions. We apparently won't get all of them answered because it's getting a sequel season for the tournament arc but there are still going to be big bomb drops coming up. #anime #ToBeHeroX #TBHX -

E-Soul's arc had a ton of moving parts with lots of people being manipulative behind the scenes and they were done well but a lot of it was a shell game to hide a different secret.
In episode 6, a thug kills Yang Chen's friend, biggest supporter, and (unbeknownst to the friend) romantic rival. Part of that scene is zooming in on his feet to see electricity crackling as his super speed kicks in. We've seen similar visual cues when new powers kicked in before and he had trouble controlling them.
But, during episode 7 the scene is revisited after he swears to never hesitate again. This time, we see scenes of what Yang Chen's was thinking at the time. It was flashbacks of him, the girl he liked, and the friend but with his face scribbled out. He wasn't struggling to control his powers at all, for an instant he wondered if a girl would go out with him if his friend wasn't in the way. Before having that thought and after dismissing it, he was in control of his speed power. But that moment was enough to stop him from catching the bullet.
There's about a million other twists in the story but that one explains his actions so much better than the other ones they were hinting at until that reveal. And I love that. I didn't buy that it was just him being shy or wanting revenge against the guy who orchestrated it. #anime #ToBeHeroX -
