Bruce Rule (Photo by Peter Kondos)Author Bruce Rule just released a new book, “The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: The Debutante Detective” and is available on Amazon, Waterstones, Bookshop.org, Indigo, ForbiddenPlanet, Browseabout Books, Book-A-Million and Barnes & Noble.

Bruce now lives in Delaware and we met about seven years ago when we were both in Toastmasters. He was my favorite speaker and I wanted to be friends with him. He was very helpful to other speakers, giving them tips to succeed.
We also had the writer/editor thing in common and met for lunch to chat business. One of those times I was on his YouTube channel, Thriving in a Gig Economy, which you can see here:

Congratulations to Bruce Rule, wishing him continued success!

It is exciting stuff to research and diving into some of the stats around the #Fedi -

Hello everyone!
I have a crazy week ahead but NEXT week, I'm planning to attend a #ToastMasters session.
I've been meaning to go to one for years, but it somehow never happened.
Anyone here have any experience participating? How was it?

I created a visual reference to understand the new #toastmasters Pathways requirements. Easy to see what in a level and the required projects, extra new activities for each path: https://speakerdeck.com/boyarsky/2025-toastmasters-path-reference

My #Toastmasters area contest results - didn't place in evaluation, third place in humourous.
The Area Director does calligraphy, so the certificates don't have the usual "name hastily printed in ballpoint pen" look

It's #toastmasters area contests season. I didn't place in the Table Topics contest last night. Evaluation and humourous tonight!

I was always told that Dutch people have a tendency to make a verb out of many words, a practice my #English speaking friends didn't really understand. Or appreciate.
"Speeching" was a common word in Dutch #Toastmasters clubs, for example. I remember them not being too keen on "biking" as well. Now my puzzle has the word "pogromed"?
And last week, #CrackingTheCryptic used "I don't want to be scylla-and-charybdised"? -

It's contest season at Toastmasters. Last night my club had our Table Topics contest. I won first place, therefore going through to Area level (date TBA).
I also filled a gap in the agenda with an improvised presentation on "What Toastmasters can learn from Auslan". List buoys (the linguists' term for listing things on your fingers), facial expression, and role shift can enhance a speech.

I'm giving a speech at #Toastmasters today related to a trip we took back in 2001, specifically our experiences in a delightful small mountain town, Invermere, on the way to Jasper. That made me want to review photos from that trip. I don't have any saved photos from Invermere, but I have plenty from Jasper. I particularly loved all the waterfalls and that amazing turquoise color of the water (apparently from scattering by super fine "glacial flour").

We did a reverse meeting at #Toastmasters tonight. Evaluations before the speeches, topics answers before the actual questions. It was strange but it worked. Members really took on their roles well.

10 years ago yesterday I broke my arm, skiing (on day 1 of the trip 🫣). During the recovery phase I found Toastmasters, which significantly changed my communication style and life.
I also concluded that good, clean&healthy nutrition and healing go well together: The doctors first considered an operation within 10 days, but when they saw day-7's healing state going vastly beyond their expectation and experience, they didn't want to operate any more.

This year is another #Toastmasters contest year for me.
Round 1 done, only 6 more to go for championship. 🫣
