"In 1944 wordt de Nederlandse Spanjestrijder en verzetsman André Engwirda afgezet op een Joegoslavisch eiland om maarschalk Josip Tito te vermoorden. ‘Engvird’ speelt een dubbelspel met de Duitsers, maar gaat gaandeweg in het Duitse verhaal geloven."

In 1971, my older brother and I attempted to collect the autographs of all the world leaders. We kept a detailed record of who we wrote to, who responded, and how long it took. The project lasted for several years. Here are some of our treasures!

    1) Golda Meir, Israel
    2) Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah, King of Nepal
    3) Josip Broz Tito, Yugoslavia

THIS is how #communism was SUPPOSED to work. #FreeMarket #socialism can work VERY well. Slovenia was probably the closest to the type of nation #Marx believed would shift to communism once they had mental and physical infrastructure created by capitalism.
They were also SUPPOSED to have workers councils and start out with them until #Lenin got only 1/3rd of the vote with the menchiviks, liberals and SRs winning the other seats, and could have ended up in prison or dead so he ignored the vote and shifted over to a double representative democracy, where people voted for a representative who then went and voted for the real leaders, but it gave them so much power that they began to tell you who you could vote for making it a complete farce.
Because the west refused to trade with anyone they deemed as socialist for around 30 years, even if they weren't actually socialist(see Cuba and the Congo), most nations were forced to adopt a form of Stalinism but even worse with a corrupt dictator under the thumb of #Stalin .
Yugoslavia, Vietnam, Laos and Cuba were the only ones who were able to maintain their own version of decentralized local autonomous control that had democratic right over their local government and workplaces at a level we should have as well.
So long as you didn't cross some lines and criticize the federal government you were fine. Its true in Vietnam, Laos and Cuba today, lots of local autonomy and free speech but no free speech about the federal government, or free speech around sensitive subjects like promoting capitalism.
Titoism was basically the closest to the real version of Marx's vision, Slovenia checking all the boxes Marx called for, #Tito was just a dictator that held a bunch of ethnic groups together that hated each other.
  13. I Need to Rewrite Chapter 7

Josip Tito might have been able to lead Yugoslavia from an oligarchy to the TDG.

But there might be a new oligarchy that can model this transformation:

  18. After 11 years, multiple playoff appearances, and a World Series in 2016 that came down to Game 7, extra innings, a rain delay, and finally disappointment, Cleveland Guardians manager Tito Francona is stepping down and retiring. While Tito has not made the official announcement, his retirement is the biggest open secret in the world, and the Guardians organization and fans made sure how much he was appreciated at his last home game at Progressive Field on September 28th against the Cincinnati Reds.

One of my coworkers had a bleacher ticket he was unable to use that night, and he was kind enough to let me have it, so I headed up to Cleveland after work. Despite the traffic of so many fans and the fun of trying to find a parking spot that wouldn’t break the bank, I was able to get into the stadium during the second inning of the game. The Guardians won it for Tito, 4-3, taking the Ohio Cup from the Reds in the process.

The emotion of saying goodbye to Tito was offset by the silliness and drama of the final Sugardale Hot Dog Derby. With Mustard and Ketchup tied at 27 wins each and Onion right behind them at 26, there would be either one champion or three tonight. Mustard broke from the pack and looked like a shoe-in for the win, but, right out of the WWE, an unknown assailant literally clotheslined Mustard at the finish line, giving Ketchup the win and the title. Said assailant was revealed to be Bally Sports Great Lakes broadcaster Andre Knott, who, if you will, has had beef with Mustard for some time. I suspect this story isn’t over, and Knott may want to watch his back next season.

While I was far from the Guardians dugout sitting in the bleachers, I could still see Tito after the game as he took one last curtain call. Jose Ramirez apparently blocked the dugout steps to ensure Tito couldn’t escape, allowing his teammates and the fans to show their appreciation for all Tito has done for Cleveland. I’ve heard that Tito will move into a front office role with the Guardians after this season, so he will stay involved with the team and the city for years to come.

A few days earlier, Tito was a guest on The Athletic Baseball Show. Like a lot of old school baseball personalities, Tito had some great stories to tell from his years managing both Boston and Cleveland, resulting in an incredible interview. Check it out below.

Drop a comment below if you were at the game or if you have your own Tito story to tell.

  22. Wow, I read a #book about #Yugoslavia in 20th century and I intended just to have some fun, but it turns out, that Yugoslavia was a hotspot of accelerated #modernization, and that's why it finally had to lead to #CivilWar and #genocide.

    Most interesting aspects:

    - The plurality of breeding #nationalisms under modern market subjects conditions (#enlightenment).
    - How introducing state #communism first created #capitalist production and #consumption under #Tito.
    - How with every try to become more capitalistic/liberal the crisis worsened till #collapse.
    - And how the collapse led back to nationalisms, instead of questioning markets and enlightenment and to the final genocide. (Still reading here)

Mega book. Guess only in German. 🙄

  23. It always amazes me that tankies, after shedding the brainwashing and manufactured consent of the imperial core just.. take other nation states at their word. Oh the DPRK says they’re anti-imperialist? Well then there is no way China can be imperialist if the two countries are friends!

France’s motto is “freedom, equality, and brotherhood” and the US are allies with France so *obviously* the US is an agent of equality, right?? 🙄

After the Italian armistice with the Allies in September 1943, this 40 year old Carabiniere quit the army & joined the #GaribaldiBrigade to fight beside #Tito's Yugoslav partisans.

Most of the Italian-sponsored Domobranci fighters were handed over by the British to #Tito's partisans in 1945.
