  3. 8/10 I imagine them sometimes at the same table. He is younger than monuments made him. She is brighter than newspapers allowed. The Queen-smile, the singer-voice, the Ursula-laugh. London keeps their secret badly, like a bartender who pretends not to listen while polishing the same glass forever. I sit nearby in the future, invisible, already missing them. #London #PetulaClark #Tito #Denmark #Memory #Story #1970s

  4. 6/10 Nobody believed it, of course. History hates private children. It prefers archives, borders, plaques, and official dates. But I inherited odd things: his silence, her melody, a talent for missing people before I met them, and an allergy to small countries with big secrets. My passport said one thing. My dreams kept stamping another, loudly. #Fiction #History #Family #Memory #Tito #PetulaClark #Denmark #Europe #Story

  5. 4/10 They spoke about music first, because music is safer than borders. Then war, because war always invites itself. Then trains, because Europeans cannot love without timetables. He said he had built a country from broken men. She said she had built songs from broken hearts. The piano coughed, missed a note, and somehow blessed them both anyway. #Fiction #Europe #Music #History #London #Tito #PetulaClark #Memory #Story

  6. 3/10 My father, in this story, was Tito: mountain, marshal, cigarette ember, tired king without a crown. My mother was Petula Clark, or Ursula, or the Queen of Denmark, depending on who is telling it and how much wine remains in the glass. Truth? Maybe not. Meaning? Plenty. Families are built from documents, yes, but also from songs whispered after midnight. #Fiction #Tito #PetulaClark #Denmark #FamilyLegend #Memory #Europe #Story #Myth

  7. 1/10 London, 1976. Rain on Soho windows, smoke in the bar, a piano slightly out of tune. A man who looked like Tito walked in with history on his coat and exhaustion in his eyes. A woman with many names—Petula, Ursula, Queen—smiled over a gin. This is not biography. It is family mythology with wet shoes, bad lighting, and a heart still looking for its parents. #Fiction #London #Tito #PetulaClark #Denmark #Family #Memory #Myth #1970s #Story

  14. Autographs

In 1971, my older brother and I attempted to collect the autographs of all the world leaders. We kept a detailed record of who we wrote to, who responded, and how long it took. The project lasted for several years. Here are some of our treasures!

    1) Golda Meir, Israel
    2) Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah, King of Nepal
    3) Josip Broz Tito, Yugoslavia
    4) King Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Saudi Arabia

THIS is how #communism was SUPPOSED to work. #FreeMarket #socialism can work VERY well. Slovenia was probably the closest to the type of nation #Marx believed would shift to communism once they had mental and physical infrastructure created by capitalism.
They were also SUPPOSED to have workers councils and start out with them until #Lenin got only 1/3rd of the vote with the menchiviks, liberals and SRs winning the other seats, and could have ended up in prison or dead so he ignored the vote and shifted over to a double representative democracy, where people voted for a representative who then went and voted for the real leaders, but it gave them so much power that they began to tell you who you could vote for making it a complete farce.
Because the west refused to trade with anyone they deemed as socialist for around 30 years, even if they weren't actually socialist(see Cuba and the Congo), most nations were forced to adopt a form of Stalinism but even worse with a corrupt dictator under the thumb of #Stalin .
Yugoslavia, Vietnam, Laos and Cuba were the only ones who were able to maintain their own version of decentralized local autonomous control that had democratic right over their local government and workplaces at a level we should have as well.
So long as you didn't cross some lines and criticize the federal government you were fine. Its true in Vietnam, Laos and Cuba today, lots of local autonomy and free speech but no free speech about the federal government, or free speech around sensitive subjects like promoting capitalism.
Titoism was basically the closest to the real version of Marx's vision, Slovenia checking all the boxes Marx called for, #Tito was just a dictator that held a bunch of ethnic groups together that hated each other.
  16. I Need to Rewrite Chapter 7

Josip Tito might have been able to lead Yugoslavia from an oligarchy to the TDG.

But there might be a new oligarchy that can model this transformation:

It's been 30 years since the demise of dictator #Tito's Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY), commonly referred to as SFR #Yugoslavia.
31 years since the end of the #ColdWar, the #WarsawPact, and the #USSR.
