While walking through one of the most beautiful neighborhoods we’ve discovered, I came across a handmade spin wheel by the sidewalk—each section offering a word to carry with you: believe, grateful, make peace, celebrate, laugh, love, hope, unite, forge ahead.
Of course, I gave it a spin.
And it landed on HOPE.That one word struck deep—especially today, as Israel marks Tisha B’Av, a day of mourning and reflection over destruction, exile, and suffering through the generations.
Hope—for the release of the hostages.
Hope—for true and lasting peace.
Hope—for my students and all who long to connect with the beauty of Hebrew.
Hope—that what I teach finds its way into the hearts that need it most.It was exactly the message I needed today. Maybe it’s one you need too. 💫

To anyone fasting, I wish you a meaningful Tisha B'Av.
This article from one of the leaders of Smol Emuni isn't an easy read, but it's something to reckon with. If you're in New York, there are more rallies forthcoming to apply Jewish pressure on this on both Sunday & Monday.
I'm also going to add, to any non-Jews: these kinds of takes are not your place to make. Which also includes anyone reading this post thinking of making some obscene reductive comment condemning every Jew on earth for the ethnic cleansing and starvation in Gaza. You can show up for Gaza *without* being smug and hateful, and let Jews fight what is being done specifically in our names.

My Tisha B’Av this year was:
- hearing Eicha (Lamentations) last night & this morning
- listening to kinot (Hebrew dirges/poems)
- watched the “Ordinary Men” documentary
- I can’t fast medically but I ate simply
- can’t wait to cut my nails and shave.
