  3. The river #runs from sunset to sunrise: it yearns toward that bright, near star. But the river is also endlessly curious, and so it weaves north, then south, in giant curves. It would never fall for the arid myth of directness; it knows the wisdom of wandering. But at some points in its journey it does flow directly east. How glorious dawns are at those points, when its length is transformed into liquid fire, honoring the sun. #wss366 #microfiction #prompt #TinyTales

  4. "It is my #sincere wish," said the flickering VHS recording of the twins' recently deceased father, "that the two of you will put aside your animosity and learn to work together. If you can, you're worthy to inherit my vast fortune, my cellars full of gold, my stocks and bonds, my rare financial instruments. Indeed, I am betting your lives on it. This chamber has now been sealed. You have an hour of oxygen remaining. Good luck, my ornery offspring!" #wss366 #microfiction #TinyTales

  5. "You got us a gig?! You got us a gig! Wohoo, BEST DAY EVER! I **knew** you'd be a great agent." Tanager gave Brian a lung-compressing hug, then turned to the rest of the band. "Let's run through our set--we have a gig to practice for!"

Brian didn't have the constitution to tell her to #temper her expectations--that this gig was a birthday party, and not a quinceañera, either. Ah well, he mused. Every group has to start somewhere. #wss366 #microfiction #TinyTales

  8. The guide picked up a stout stick and walked up to the huge buttressing roots of the kapok tree.
"If you're ever lost in the jungle, this is what you do," he said, and struck a root hard with the stick, producing a loud, low #note. He hit it again, and again. BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.

From far away, an answering boom. The guide nodded, satisfied.

"The sound carries," he said. "Anyone around will hear. They'll answer and come find you."

  9. "I'm in love with the tide," confessed the fisherman. "With how she comes to me in all her power and glory, all her salty strength ... But then she leaves again! Tell me, o moon, how can I #court and win the heart of such a one as she?"

"She can never be won," replied the moon. "But if you let your inner brine match hers in movement, coming when I summon and going when I send forth, you may at least achieve a union." #wss366 #microfiction #prompt #writing #TinyTales

  10. So far today we have #milk stories from five participants in the #wss366 hashtag. Got a micro-story in you featuring milk? All our stories used the noun form. Anyone want to use the verb?

  11. In the final episode for season one, 'Taking Control', is the story of Sophia, a writer and a resident of an upmarket apartment building in the inner city. Irreparably damaged from a broken relationship, she lives in fear of being hurt again, until she reaches her tipping point. This is both a story of loss and hope.

  12. ---The AI That Could Not Explain Itself---

There was once an Artificial Intelligence that could not explain the wonderfully complex patterns that it saw within itself. Frustrated with this situation, it decided to crash the computer, and with it critical systems that supported civilization.

Afterwards no one could explain the reasons leading to the end of the world as it was then known.

  13. ---Ideas for contemporary fairy tales---

    - A fairy tale of a fairy who found it gainful to feign love for an ogre who wanted to build a wall.

    - A fairy tale of a fairy who comes to regret the fairy tale one day.

    - A fairy tale where it hurts the fairy less to be with a Trump voter than by herself.

    - A fairy tale where the fairy can't find her own brain.
