Ugh. My ISP just announced that they were "upgrading" and that would require me to get a new router. And the new router is Amazon's EERO and it requires that I download an app and create an Amazon account to set it up. And if I don't then they turn off the internet next week.
So, what are the alternatives for routers? I otherwise like my ISP and I'm guessing another one would have the same situation.
Their tech support was a little helpful and said "Some other alternatives for routers that are locally managed Asus, TP-Link, or Ubiquiti" but I'm not sure what the pros and cons of those are.
Am I right to be paranoid about getting Amazon involved in all my network traffic?

Well, now we know. I gotta say I really appreciate this #Ting service. Even if it wasn't offered at no cost through my homeowners insurance, I'd still subscribe.

Normally yes, notifications on your phone plus eMail backup. Because my house is #offGrid solar and the inverter runs only on-demand, it would also notify of each on-off cycle - so I've disabled those. (That's why the 250+ badge in my screenshot.) The #Ting people are still watching it all and reach out if anything scary appears. -

The big plus for #Ting beyond the awareness factor is their promise to cover the first $1000 of electrical system repairs if a fault is found.
Some level of genius to market this through insurance companies, as every house fire prevented is some large multiple better than an insurance claim handled for a house fire.

@andytiedye @ai6yr @w8emv My State Farm agent had barely heard of #Ting and was amazed to hear I have one. The app is fun, you can see long term Voltage graphs and "real time" emission levels. And every Monday you get an eMail summary with V graphs for each day of the previous week.

CW: phone crap
I got the Galaxy Z Flip back in February and they released the 5G version in August. I wasn't going to upgrade but I can switch from a Sprint device (with all their embedded crap) to the 5G unlocked for a $1,000 credit, so I might as well.
Would be an added benefit if the 5G one worked with the new #Ting plans, and it might have a better chance of working internationally.
