Tim Finn’s better known as one of the co-founders of Split Enz, and later member of Crowded House. This was his debut album as a solo artist, originally on Mushroom records, a large indie label in Australia, but distributed in the US by A&M.

Split Enz started with Tim, then brother Neil joined and wrote their hits. After that ended, Neil started Crowded House...and in this, their third album, Tim joined.

This started as a Finn Brothers release, with true co-writes, and morphed into a Crowded House release.

It's one of their best.

Split Enz - Time and Tide

Here's where the two "halves" of Split Enz met in the middle, integrating Neil's pop and Tim's art instincts into a more cohesive whole.

It's a much darker album than True Colors, and not as fun, but a richer overall experience.

Kudos to Hugh Padgham who had spun out from being Steve Lillywhite's engineer and was on a roll, producing a ton of big records during this period.
