Any solid sources for #TigrayGenocide planning during the year between [1] the October 2019 announcement of Abiy's prize [2] and the 3–4 November 2020 attacks [3] would be useful for Wikipedia.

Any better sources than the #EmnetNegash May 2023 estimate of 162,000 to 378,000 civilian deaths [4] in the #TigrayGenocide would be useful too.

Effective moderation of social media to curb genocidal content

"The 2020-2022 Tigray war is reported to be the deadliest armed conflict of the 21𝑠𝑡 century, with an estimated 600 to 800,000 documented deaths and more than 100 thousand victims of rape as a weapon of war. Social media platforms were instrumental in spreading genocidal content during the conflict, and failure to effectively moderate hateful content resulted in the murder of civilians. This work investigates the expertise and processes required to effectively moderate such genocidal content, and compares these findings to the expertise and processes prioritized by social media platforms."

Slow news: it took over a month for the first hints of the 28/29 November 2020 #AxumMassacre of 400 to 800 civilians by Eritrean security forces to reach the outside world [1], nearly another month for the Kroc Institute to comment, and a third month for Amnesty Int and HRW to provide their first reports. Witness testimonies [2][3].

Some massacres are more equal than others.

It is unacceptable for the EU Commission to provide support for Meta/FB's role in hate speech [1] [2], its role in the #RohingyaGenocide [3][4] and its role in the #TigrayGenocide [5][6].
