I've done so much gardening recent. I quite enjoy tidying up. I don't *want* to do the work but when I see a job that needs doing I want to get it done. And it's satisfying to clear things up and make things better.
I've cut out tonnes on ivy, I've built planters and put up trellises, I've cut up the ivy and taken it to the recycling centre, I've emptied a load of plastic pots and taken them to the recycling centre, I've painted herbs, wisteria, flowering plants, and I've repotted large plants into new ceramic pots.
I did this over a few days but I've done a lot today. I've exhausted. I deserve a #beer.

I'm tyding my stuff and questions arise e.g.
Why do I have two copies of "Snow Crash"
Why are they next to each other on the shelf? I think I would have noticed when I put them there. It doesn't fit my normal chaotic ways.
I'm definitely getting old.
Anyway the local library or one of the many charity shops nearby will have a copy of "Snow Crash" soon.

I'm in a things not thoughts frame of mind this morning so I'm moving stuff around in the Writing Hut trying to make some usable space. The WH is the repository for everything from everywhere with nowhere to go &, every now & then, I have to tackle the ensuing chaos
I've tidied some book shelves & shifted some clobber off the worktop to reveal ... space! Yay!

Though it’s also boring lying there not wanting or feeling able to read or watch anything and thoughts easily stray into well-worn paths of negativity. #Tidying and #painting are two of my faves for getting into #flow once I can start. I listen to #music and #audio for #relaxation or a zingy boost, but I get fed up of that too. I’ve spent years temporarily boosting my #mood with so many kinds of them (by #PaulMcKenna and then all I can find on YouTube), and sometimes I prefer quiet.

Went through my mum’s bedside drawers. Left most of it there, some interesting keepsakes and stuff. I chucked old ointments and receipts, etc. There was an antenatal cream from 1980 because of course there was. Only a few sticky sweets in a drawer, and just one I can’t budge. I guess I can chisel it off another time.

Desk census complete. Of nearly 100 items/groups of items, about 15% were where they belonged (counting all the tech stuff as one group).
About a fifth belonged somewhere else - or just over half if you count what belonged in the bin*.
The remaining approximate third belonged nowhere, which is probably why they ended up on my desk. Still working on finding suitable homes for them all.
*Recycling, compost, logburner, or rubbish.

The best benefit of tidying the big, flat boxes from under my art desk (keeping them to store old art in), was that Sapphy slept under that desk again while I was gaming. Lola also turned up when I returned from a break and I didn’t see her among the blanket I had on the floor (cold feet despite double socks). The problem of the cat matching the blanket 🐈⬛

I'm reading Tidy First?, the new book by @kentbeck I am trying to find an analogy in my native language to describe the meaning and difference between coupling and cohesion. I found it in the terminology of human relations — codependency and self-sufficiency.

Are you keen on tidying up, or a minimalist, or do you hang onto stuff for way too long?
I found it interesting that Marie Kondo's method notes the relationship between emotional blocks and problems tidying up.
Perfectionism has just as much potential to reflect emotional trauma as hoarding does. In fact I met a guy who felt he needed to replace all his carpets every 2 years and criticise everyone he saw as imperfect from his POV.

I started a new daily habit of putting on a good fiction podcast & then wandering around the house doing some of those random 2 minute jobs we always put off because they aren't urgent.
File the paperwork, put those photos into frames, clean out that drawer, put those things away, get the checkers that fell behind the cupboard, etc.
Holy smokes that worked well! What was supposed to be 20 minutes turned into 2 hours. 😳👍

The snarky "Hey, even Marie Kondo is messy these days" thing is ... kind of silly.
I think her premise of only burdening yourself with things that bring you #joy is a valuable one ... now, as she shows, balanced by realizing that free time (or time spent with family doing something other than #tidying ) is *also* something that brings joy.
Like all elements of life, finding a #balance is a good thing.

Starting to clear out a couple of decades of accumulated bumf on my computer desk, prior to slotting in my new desktop. It’s like archaeology with stratigraphy. Fairly near the top are loads of #Irish #genealogy BMD certificates as I traced my great granny. Then further back in time, thru my #Dundee Uni #PhD and my research assistant work. Even found my original AHRB award letter. Will continue another day. It’s a huge task, and I’m really weak. But it is good to get it done. #TidyingUp #Tidying
