My phone occasionally replays images from its stored memory, and I wish it hadn't shown me this one!

How wonderful it is when a picture flashes before your eyes, bringing back moments of happiness and gatherings with loved ones, a genuine smile from the heart spreading across your face.

But this picture didn't bring a smile; instead, it transported me back to the depths of the starvation war in northern Gaza, to days of loss, hunger, and displacement, and to the pain that has settled in my heart since the martyrdom of my brothers, who were a great support to me.

What's in the picture isn't the bread we know and enjoy eating. The unscrupulous merchants claimed it was made from corn flour, but then the gastroenteritis revealed the truth; it was more like animal feed than human food.

We ate it because hunger leaves us no choice!

We went hungry, we were displaced, we suffered, we lost our loved ones, our homes were destroyed, and we lived through days when simply obtaining a morsel to postpone our hunger was a blessing.

This picture is not just a memory, but a testament to a time when the world thought hunger could break human dignity. But God strengthened our hearts, fortified our spirits, and granted us a patience we never thought we possessed. All the memories on my phone now tell a story of pain and suffering from the beginning of the war until this very moment. Speak up for us, support us, help us. Your support eases our suffering and helps us to persevere and survive.
