John Tenniel is famous for illustrating Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through The Looking-Glass.
Here is his darker depiction of a view through the looking-glass, revealing a seamstress who died doing round the clock overtime to meet the demands of the high-society Season.
One wonders what Tenniel would have made of modern fast fashion.

The Red Queen, Rosamund, finally got her dress and robes today! I love them so much with her crown— it’s just what I was hoping it would look like. I added the checkerboard ribbon, to bring in a little extra Looking-Glass feel. Very regal, no?
She misplaced her scepter in my book “The Trouble with Tweedle” and grabbed the nearest similar item- the flyswatter in her hand now.
