THE SEA AND CAKE

2012 U.S. pressingHaving a bit of a Thrill Jockey day today, I guess.
First with some Trans Am, now a little Sea And Cake.
I love all of the players in the Thrill Jockey mafia; John McEntire, Sam Prekop, Archer Prewitt…
They all play on/produce/engineer each other’s records (McEntire produced Trans Am’s Surrender To The Night), and they all just seem like one big happy musical family. 😂
Runner clocks in at just a few ticks under 40 mins, and is more melodic and (dare I say?) pastoral sounding. It’s a bit different than the jazzy, jittery stuff from the early records, but equally fantastic.
They just have this sound about them that’s been very comforting to me over the years. They’ve never put a record I’ve disliked, and you can probably say the same about Thrill Jockey as a label.
