In 1987, African revolutionary Thomas Sankara was killed in a Western-backed coup.

After becoming President of Burkina Faso in 1983, he became a symbol of African liberation.

He implemented a program influenced by Marxism-Leninism, pan-Africanism, and women’s liberation.

However, forces within the state collaborated with Western powers to overthrow Sankara and roll back the societal gains that had been won up until 1987.

Cette année, c'est un peu une consécration pour #FredSochard, plusieurs millions de billets de la #FeteDeLHumanite seront à l'effigie de 8 activistes dessinées par ses soins.

Parmi lesquel.le.s Emma Goldmann, Louise Michel quant à moi, j'ai eu #ThomasSankara, ça aurait été mon choix si on me l'avait laissé (le choix).

L'an dernier, j'ai été à son stand de la Fête, ce sont ses (grands) enfants qui m'avaient servi et j'avais pu avoir une petite discussion avec lui autour de, je vous le donne Émile : #LaCommune de Paris, son sujet de prédilection.

On remarquera qu'il a donné une place prépondérante dans le fanzine et dans ses dessins sur la Commune en général, aux femmes dans la lutte.

L'an dernier, j'ai acheté son "fanzine communeux" illustré "72 jours".
Un bijou à feuilleter sans modération.

By having Thomas Sankara murdered, "France à fric" and its local potentates, like Houphouët Boigny in Ivory Coast, clearly prevented a tide of progress and change to happen in West-Africa, in the late 80's.
He was a real leftist and progressist, may be the first african leader to put women's rights at such a high place, without any mansplaining or patronizing.

He is a man I read about, respect and miss a lot, I mean, a lot !
