  1. The Man Who Financed America

Industrial revolutions are often remembered through machines.Steam engines. Railroads. Steel mills. Factories.Yet machines alone never built a modern economy.Every railroad required investors long before it carried passengers.Every steel mill demanded capital years before it produced its first beam.Every bridge, dock, factory, and warehouse existed first as a financial commitment. The Industrial Republic needed more than engineers. It needed people capable of organizing money on a scale […]

  5. Building with Steel

No civilization is remembered only by its ideas. It is remembered by what it builds.Stone gives shape to ancient empires.Brick defines medieval cities.Concrete transforms the twentieth century. For the United States of the late nineteenth century, that material was steel Not because steel had never existed before. But because, for the first time in history, it became abundant enough to shape an entire nation. The Industrial Republic did not simply need more steel. It needed steel that ordinary […]

  8. A quotation from Jefferson

If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be. The functionaries of every government have propensities to command at will the liberty and property of their constituents. There is no safe deposit for these but with the people themselves; nor can they be safe with them without information. Where the press is free, and every man able to read, all is safe.

Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) American political philosopher, polymath, statesman, US President (1801-09)
    Letter (1816-01-06) to Charles Yancey

  11. @brainwane In the #USA , the corresponding “principle of inherent worth” was penned by #scientist and #statesman #ThomasJefferson in the #DeclarationOfIndependence. It states simply that “All men are created equal.” Emphasis on *created*. Americans have the #freedom to squander their birthright. Many do, and that is what makes me sad for #America.
