CW: COVID and deaths in surgery
Just listening to surgeon Aneel Bhangu talking about his international collaborative study showing how COVID infection increased people's mortality during surgery, even in minor surgery and young people. #THISSpace2022 https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/news/2020/covid-19-patients-who-undergo-surgery-are-at-increased-risk-of-postoperative-death-global-study

Absolutely fascinating talk from Dundee's Graham Pullin on his work on design and disability at Studio Ordinary. He describes brings together disabled and non-disabled researchers across critical disability studies and design to explore disability technologies.
Graham's talk illustrates, using excerpts of conversations from members of Studio Ordinary, experiences of being involved (or not!) in designing assistive technologies.

So I can see some people I follow have clearly used a #hashtag I'm interested in (in this case #THISSpace2022). But a search for that hashtag is showing no results. Any advice on why that might be? #feditips

Following harmful healthcare incidents (we are talking deaths here!), the need to be sensitive to timing was something that came across very strongly. For some people, investigations moved too quickly and didn't allow for grieving or coming to terms with what happened. For others, delays prevented people from moving on and contributed to compounded harm. The need to respond meaningfully within the current system is being debated.

The always excellent #THISspace2022 has begun with a great session on harmful incidents in healthcare. There is currently discussion about what that means for different parties, and how to respond better within restorative frameworks.
