I don't remember all of the movies I introduced my friends to this way, but they definitely included #TheLastUnicorn, #TheNeverendingStory, and #TheDarkCrystal.
Growing up as a #bilingual #ThirdCultureKid can be fun, but it is definitely weird most of the time.

Filipino Heritage 2of2
Personally, I love cooking nutritious regional dishes (more info in comments) like "pinakbet" for my family. I don't often post about it because my culinary world is so wonderfully diverse, influenced by friends, family, and even past partners.
Being mixed-race myself (Portuguese, Spanish, Italian) has also shaped my understanding of #multiculturalism, something I've experienced firsthand as a #ThirdCultureKid #TCK i.e. someone raised in a culture different from their parents' or their country of nationality.
This month, let's learn more about the diverse heritage, traditions, and achievements of Filipino Canadians. Try a new dish, listen to the music, connect with friends!
Let's use this month to honour the past, celebrate the present, and build an even more welcoming future together! What are your favourite things about Filipino culture? Share below! 👇

@ZenHeathen I'm not sure about the social cues part though. I never know if I'm missing a social cue because of ADHD or because of growing up as a bilingunal #ThirdCultureKid.

Stopping in at FB once every couple of months can sometimes be fun.
(yes, me on the far right)
And no, our band did not normally wear these wonderful polyester outfits; we were also in the glee club and served as the backing band.

Is there a word in any language for the sadness and ennui felt by people who have moved around lots and everybody they know and love live in different places, far from each other, and most of those people don't know each other so they rarely see them and are never surrounded by close people? #ThirdCultureKid #ExPat #migration #migrants #language #languages #TCK

@RickiTarr As a #ThirdCultureKid, I've never understood pride in one's location of origin either. No single place is perfect. No single place has everything everyone needs, or even everything one person needs. Every place we humans call "home" requires maintenance to preserve it or change to improve it. And, like you said, none of us contributed anything to the circumstances that led us to be born &/or raised where we were.
Nationalism is just willful ignorance. Patriotism isn't far behind imo.

My dad, my sister, my mother and myself walking along a path up in Puncak (the mountains south of Bogor where expats and well-off residents rented bungalows for the weekend).
1969 maybe? How old do I look there?
(and I'm not going to go into analysis of how our walking arrangement could be seen to reflect what was going on in our family at the time, fully unknown to me then of course)

Got a reminder this evening of a spectacular German word: "Arschgeige" (loosely pronounced "ARSH guy guh"). It's a word used for a person who's a complete screw-up.
Literally translated, it means "ass fiddle."
An example sentence is:
Der 45. US-Präsident ist voll die Arschgeige.
You're welcome!

I mean, it is true that having grown up as a #thirdCultureKid , #facebook was/is a good way to stay in touch with folks who are now scattered across the globe...
I wish they were here on the #fediverse but that's unlikely to happen.
The people I *really* care about, I stay in touch with #IRL

In Darmstadt, Germany, where I grew up, there is a huge public park toward the southeast edge of the city. It's called "Lichtwiese," which translates to "Meadow of Light."
Just thought I'd share that beautiful tidbit with y'all. Have a great day. 😊♥️

🏳️⚧️ Today is #TransDayOfVisibility so I am waving at y'all from my corner of the universe!
It's been about 4 years since I started this journey, untangling the #trans bits from #adhd #asd #poc #thirdculturekid #missionarykid experiences. Gender Identity is just one facet of my complicated jumble of all these factors mixed in with my weird nerdy interests, but on a deep personal level I think it might be the most important.

I just copied my little profile flags over from the birdsite because too many people on here have been blindly assuming I'm British. I'm actually Dutch (just the one passport because Rutte won't let me have more) but have spent the last two decades in Canada and the UK. I also spent two years of my childhood at an American school in Morocco (my dad worked for an airline and was stationed there for a while) so I've got an overall very confusing accent and identity. #thirdculturekid

I'm a software engineer currently working in the #DevOp space.
Being #ThirdCultureIndivdual means I spent my early childhood in Hong Kong, then high school/college years in the UK. Have been living and working in the US since 2001 and now have 2 #ThirdCultureKid myself.
I try to maintain fitness with road #cycling and #mtb. Love #NonFiction and #scifi TV/movies and hate most (if not all) #fiction.
Care deeply about #climatechange and #environment.

@jkirkendall Thank you for sharing that! I'm a third-culture kid as well (Indonesia) and lived through uncertain times there--although nothing quite as extreme.
I do remember at that time the US Embassy in Jakarta sent a warning to all expats to keep a low profile. Although nothing ensued during that time.

Are there any good transfriendly places in #Brazil to connect with American and British immigrants and their descendants?
I feel like this would be a crowd I would connect a lot with.
