No Immunity for #BigOil Rallies!

"While making record profits, Big Oil and their allies in Congress are trying to get off the hook from paying for damages caused by their pollution by passing sweeping immunity legislation to protect their #corporate interests. Let's be clear: if you make a mess, you clean it up. #Maine taxpayers have been stuck paying for climate damages with no support from the corporations that caused the problem, and that isn't right.

"Join NRCM and our coalition partners on Thursday, August 27th in Portland and/or Lewiston to tell Maine's Congressional delegation to oppose Immunity for Big Oil and Make Polluters Pay for the damages they've caused in Maine.

“'We don’t know how our actions will affect things, but it’s important to be out there and forming community around this issue,' [retiree Bill Rixon] said. 'Being out there on the sidewalk, I’ve found, is really good for my soul.'

"Part of the idea behind the group, he said, is that #retirees are in a better position to put themselves at risk of #arrest.

"'We don’t have to worry about our employment record being sullied by being arrested,' Rixon said, though the group has no intention or expectation of being arrested.

"'The goal is to hopefully urge #corporations to do the right thing,' he said."
