Heute bei mir eingetroffen:
#thinclient Dell OptiPlex 3000 TC mit #pentium Silver-Prozessor. 16 GByte RAM und 64 GByte eMMC, integriert. Steckplatz für weitere #ssd vorhanden. Preislich erschwinglich.
Leider mit unpassendem Netzteil geliefert (zu dicker Stecker), aber Ersatz ist auf dem Weg.

Damit möchte ich weg vom prinzipiell teuer werdenden #vps bei #strato

Laufen sollen darauf #docker #container mit:

Beim Speicherkonzept bin ich mir noch nicht sicher. Teure M2-SSD kaufen (500 GByte reichen mir) oder Daten auf dem vorhandenen #nas einbinden und per #nfs mounten?

@fundtruhe Hab bei mir auch nen #thinclient stehen von DELL, aktuell dient der super als sparsamer #Homeserver und #GoToSocial Instanz :-)

Aber als reiner Office mit Linux ist der bestimmt auch BOMBE !
oder als Mediaclient ...
oder als Cloudserver ...
oder als Retro Konsole ...
oder als .....
oder als .....

@theorangeninja The AMD Embedded GX-series in older thin clients (like the HP t620 Plus) are still surprisingly capable for lightweight self-hosting. 8-15W idle, passively cooled, and you can usually grab them for $30-50 on eBay.

The real question is always SATA vs USB for storage expansion. Some thin clients have internal SATA headers, which makes them much more practical as always-on servers.

Meinen HP ThinClient, den ich für die 25-Euro-NAS-Serie gekauft hatte, verschenke ich gegen Übernahme der Versandkosten.

@alcea @Codeberg @gitea @forgejo I'd see the basic point (aside of Codeberg) of Gitea/Gogs/Forgejo in the fact that you just self-host those things. Gogs/Gitea used to be Raspberry-Pi capable for average use. Grab what calls itself #thinclient these days and throw it on there, that'll get you more bang/W and less hassle updating.

Habe mir für 80€ einen intakten #MiniPC (#ThinClient) gekauft.
Nicht von privat sondern gewerblich über einen Händler.

256GB SSD
8GB Arbeitsspeicher
3x DisplayPort

Werde ein #Linux drauf installieren.
Wahrscheinlich läuft er so noch ein paar Jahre.

I can get two off-lease Wyse 5070 systems for the cost of one Raspberry Pi 4 or 5. Raspberry Pi's value for money is looking doubtful

So, heute mit #raspberrypi #pizerow und Kamera rumgespielt. Ergebnisse werden dann auf der Heimatseite im Zwischennetz https://elbosso.codeberg.page/ veröffentlicht. Das war das zweite #urlaubsprojekt.
Die ersten waren etwas fürs @homelab_de : #docker und #Traefik2 auf einem #thinclient #futro s930 austesten und aus alten Teilen ein Notfall-#nas bauen. Letzteres nur mäßig erfolgreich...
Heute früh dann endlich Durchbruch bei #sQLshell : alle bugs gefixt und #cicdpipeline läuft wieder!

Yesterday I was given a Dell Wyse 3040 thin terminal/client - It had a bios password - but worked fine. After a little messing around I got the password cleared and was able to install Linux on it without any issues.
The 3040 is a Atom Quad Core, mine has 16gb flash storage, & 2gb ram, 12v system.

Bisher laufen selbst getötete Dienst bei mir auf einem #ThinClient im VPN. Um darauf per #Wireshark von fremden Windows-Rechnern zuzugreifen brauche ich leider gehobene Rechte 😔
Cloudflare hat mich von seiner Vertrauenswürdigkeit bisher nicht so recht überzeugen können. Ggfs. wäre eine #DDNS-Freigabe nur für die interne IP des #Obsidian-Containers ein Kompromiss...

Mein Mobiltelefon fungiert mehr und mehr als #ThinClient Desktop.
Könnt ihr mir #Lineageos oder #GrapheneOS kompatible Geräte für ThinClient empfehlen?

Aktuell nutze ich:
Samsung Galaxy s10 (Lineageos 21)
Entwickler Option "Desktop Modus erzwingen" aktiv und #MoonlightClient oder #freerdp. So arbeite ich via #Wireguard mit einem PC zuhause.
Über USB-C Docking funktioniert das wirklich gut.
Leider verursachten Mausbewegungen gelegentlich Grafik Fehler

#OpenWRT on a #Fritzbox is kinda pain since there are so many things i could technically do if the fritzbox had more powerful hardware. Can't wait to build my own router.

A #Fujitsu #Thinclient S920 would be a perfect fit and is also cheap as hell.

More powerful hardware would allow me to take advantage of #tor #routing, local #tailscale resolving, #adblocking and much more. Maybe even some #docker #containers like #caddy.

#OpenWRT is a real #gamechanger for my #homenetwork.

It seems like my decision to run a J5005 based thin client as my rack/network manager PC has come to bite me in the ass. Unifi controller requires mongo 7 or newer, which requires AVX, which the J5005 does not support. Guess I'll just have to move Unifi to a VM on my Proxmox cluster :/

@Lamal Ich bin vom Raspi weg zu einem #Thinclient ein HP T620. x86-64 4 Kerne, 4 GB, eine M.2 SATA SSD. Warum? Ein solides Gehäuse in dem alles drin ist, 3-4 Watt idle, 10 Watt unter Last, vergleichbar mit Raspi. Und volle x86-Kompatibilität und somit mehr/aktuellere Software (hier: ubuntu Server 24.04)

Macht bei mir DNS, DHCP, PXE-Server, Webseite mit mySQL für Bastelprojekte, DLNA-Mediaserver, Nextcloud für 4 Pers., Wireguard, SMB... und ist Leistungsmäßig absolut ausreichend.

Last night, someone mentioned his ThinkCentre for his homelab. And since then I've been searching the web for different solutions for a homelab, mostly thin clients. There are interesting low-cost offers. One of my favourites at the moment are HP t640 because of their embedded Ryzen CPUs. But as soon as I look for just a small upgrade the price "skyrockets" from 80 Euro for the t640 to 190 Euro for the t740. When looking for new hardware there's currently an offer for the Acemagic K1 with a Ryzen 5 7430U barebones for 210 Euro and with 16GB/512GB for 280 Euro. This CPU has much more power than the older embedded ones while still running with a 15W TDP.
