Why are we so obsessed with naming things?
Today I watched a chocolate brown #butterfly with bright orange spots on its top hind wing. Was this a Brown Argus or female Common Blue? Apparently its v hard to tell. My little friend didn't have the slightest hint of blue fur or scales. I want to say Argus... but it would not show me its underwing long enough to tell.
Does it really matter though? It was such a rich brown, with such vibrant orange spots and clean white boarders. Stunning. Simple. Other. Somehow it held my attention but my experience was stunted in my attempt to order the world. Yes, really. Surely just watching and entering into its life for a few short moments is enough reward?
