Great talking about #MelittaVonStauffenberg, aeronautical engineer behind much of the #Ju87 #Stuka #divebomber, & exceptional #nosedive #testpilot. Deeply conflicted, she was later at the heart of the 20 July 1944 attempt on Hitler’s life. See #TheWomenWhoFlewForHitler!

#MelittaVonStauffenberg was born #OTD in 1903. One of the first women to fly a #glider, she became a brilliant aeronautical engineer & test pilot. The bust shows her hair merged with her flying cap - part woman part machine. 
Melitta developed the dive sights & dive brakes for the #Stuka #divebomber, but in July #1944 she played a key role in the #valkyrie bomb plot. 
Her extraordinary true story is told in my book #thewomenwhoflewforhitler
