#TIL that the word OVERRIDE predates computers.
Reading through #Tolkien's #TheTwoTowers:
"...leaping back into the saddle, [Aragorn] rode away for some distance eastward, keeping to one side and taking care not to #override the footprints."Makes sense; horses/tracking have been around for much longer than computers. One can surmise that modern usage extrapolates on that metaphor of "riding over" old #data to replace it with the footprints of the new. Neat!

Last week, I kept going to bed and putting The Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring on as I settled down to sleep.
It took me all week to finish it, as it's almost 3.5hrs long not including the 20 mins of credits.
This week, I am doing the same with The Two Towers... which is again over 3.5hrs long not including the credits.
I strongly suspect that next week... I will be doing Return of the King... which is the longest of the three at 4hrs 23m including credits.... and I usually try to spot my old friends name in the extras list.
Thus will complete my almost annual watch of the trilogy.

I was watching LotR: The Two Towers last night when I noticed something for the first time. When Treebeard takes Pip and Merry to Isengard and sees all the deforestation, he summons all the other Ents to battle. And moments later, they all come bursting from the forest.
Had they been lurking at the edge of the clearcut all this time? Surely if they'd been that close, they would've known about Saruman's kill-them-all policy re. trees.
I get that it's about pacing, but seriously, it's ridonkulous that they were standing just fifty feet back all along the clearcut border just itching for a war.
I still love the LotR movies. The "meat's back on the menu" line also got me thinking about what might be served at an Uruk-hai restaurant. Since they complained about maggoty bread, I think it means they prefer a nice bread, so roast beef sandwiches and hamburgers are probably best sellers. #TheTwoTowers #LOTR #OrcsAndUrukHai #UrukHai #LordOfTheRings
