I knew I recognised Leonie Benesch from somewhere. She was the third of the leads in David Tennant's Around the World in 80 Days a few years ago.... and she was excellent. #TheTeachersLounge

Leonie Benesch
I recently saw #GermanActress #LeonieBenesch give a great performance in the #film #September5. On further research I realized I had seen her previously in films like 2009s #TheWhiteRibbon + 2023s #TheTeachersLounge as well as the TV series #TheCrown, #BabylonBerlin + #ViennaBlood. Her ability to give subtle yet noteworthy performances is why I see her now as '#OneToWatch'

The Teachers’ Lounge, a German high tension drama
A German middle school teacher sets off a tense drama by secretly recording a theft in her school. The Teachers' Lounge (Das Lehrerzimmer) shows how a well intentioned attempt to solve a problem can lead to a huge crack in the social fabric of a community.
In The Teachers' Lounge, Leonie Benesch plays the idealistic math teacher Carla Nowak. She's young and full of excellent ideas for reaching her students. But the school is on edge because of numerous petty thefts. With typical classist [...]

Check out my review of the thought-provoking, slow burn thriller that is THE TEACHERS’ LOUNGE (2024). https://ontherunmovies.com/the-teachers-lounge-2023/ #TheTeachersLounge

This is probably the most tense and gripping thriller I have seen in years.
Who is the culprit, and who is the victim?
Lies, truths, trust, good intentions, manipulation, and morality (or immorality).
Awesome actors and perfect music, too.The Teachers Lounge, Ilker Catak

In addition to #TheHoldovers , I was reminded of Monster (not the older film with Charlize Theron), a Japanese film released last year that I'd wanted to see. I think it had a very small theatrical release but I'm seeing that it's coming to streaming later this month, so I'll have to try to remember to watch it.
Anyway, #TheTeachersLounge shows not just how the lead character interacts with students but also the dynamic with other teachers and staff. Very interesting all around. 2/2

I saw #TheTeachersLounge last night and really liked it. The film is in German with English subtitles. It's a dialogue-heavy film, so there's a lot to read. I'm a pretty quick reader, and even I was barely keeping up at times. I was also trying to watch expressions and such while also reading the dialogue, so there was a lot going on.
Reading something else, I was reminded that quite a few films last year had teachers in their profession as a central part of the story. 1/2
