Drawer system build update: I had the idea to 3d print some 1/16” thick shims which have absolutely trivialized building and mounting drawers to my satisfaction. To the point that I went mad with hubris and felt confident enough to build a stepped rather than box drawer because I could fit the pieces up with shims for spacing and be confident. Worked great. Big drawer which was the last carpentry basically done now. May do nicer faces eventually. #theshop #woodworking #3dprinting

Update on the drawer system build — apparently I can manage less than 1/16” over 48” with the saw guide. Absolute stoked. Just an enormous improvement over my previous precision with sheet work. Knocked out all the big cuts today, still got some sheet breakdown to do with the table saw tomorrow before I start on assembly #woodworking #theshop

Well I pulled the trigger and upgraded from green power tools to red and while my wallet isn't particularly pleased even with "black friday" pricing I'm pretty stoked. All this kit feels like a meaningful net upgrade.

So I've mostly been using #Ryobi tools and they've been OK but obviously light duty. Couple have handles that are already wearing out and I've killed a couple batteries.
I've got one buddy who went red (#Milwaukee), one who went yellow (#DeWalt) and one who went blue (#Makita). Of course.
I'm inclined to go yellow or red - they seem to be about on par and the Packout system seems like the clear winner of everything.

The nice thing about #woodworking is if you don't like it... you can just rework it. Lid-top storage a failure because there's always something on the worktop? Just rework it and add a drawer. Easy. #theshop
Argh. Do I buy the PrusaXL or not. If I do I'm gonna get the 5-head model because go big or go home but I also absolutely do not need to spend a large chunk of cash this way. Okay. #theshop update. A while back, I built some initial benches. Quick work on metal shelving frames intended to just get me some workspace. They've served well, but not perfectly. For one, I only had two. They also obviously aren't the same height, which means they aren't usable as a bigger composite table. Even when the wheels are locked they rack and move far too much for hand tool #woodworking.
I'll cut to the chase. The successors are a new system of 2'x4'x3' benches

Finally it is finished. I'm so tired. It took like twelve revisions to get the backing nut for my custom insert to work to my satisfaction. Turned out the printer was really well calibrated in all three dimensions... and over extruding. Reducing the Estep value by 2% immediately started yielding usable results. Now I just gotta fish all the wires and solder up a harness. #theshop #3dprinting
