  1. Happy Groundhog Day! I am a fan of the absurdity of weather prognosticating rodents & celebrate Groundhog Day with my thermochromic linocut. The shadow is visible if the ambient temperature is <30°C & disappears when >30°C (and it’s a safe bet winter is over or you are overheating your home). So I argue my print is as dependable as any celebrity rodent! The reaction is reversible so invisible shadows reappear if cooled.

  3. For the Day 20 #SciArtSeptember prompt glacial I am sharing my colour-changing thermochromic print of the polar bear and its shrinking range as the arctic warms. 🔈

  6. Happy birthday to #biologist Louis Pasteur (1822-1895)! Though his work was extensive in a variety of fields, I chose to depict him as I see him; a man who saw bacteria in his environment and developed a means of protecting people from this ambient menace. The image is based on a photograph of Pasteur and the background, of course depicts various morphologies of #bacteria. The #lino block print is in indigo and turquoise #thermochromic ink.🧵

  7. 🔈 The range of the polar bear as the arctic warms.

My print thermochromic print demonstrates the shrinking habitat of the polar bear for #InterNationalPolarBearDay. I printed the arctic map in regular cream coloured ink then mixed temperature sensitive pigments to print an image of a polar bear with aurora in the shape of its range in blue, and the word habitat in fuchsia. 🧵1/2

  9. The bacteria are printed in #thermochromic ink which changes colour with temperature. If you heat the print above about 30°C ( 86 F) the bacteria go colourless and disappear. It's like a metaphor for #pasteurization. ⠀

  10. Happy birthday to #physicist Wilhelm Röntgen (1845-1923) who discovered x-rays & earned the Nobel Prize for #physics in 1901. I've depicted him at work, studying this mysterious, newly discovered, invisible form of light, based on a photo of him, using a Crookes tube to produce x-rays. The form of the print mimics the nature of his discovery - much as x-rays reveal the skeleton within, …
