Oh, btw: "The Age Of Restraint" - the new DLC for #TheRiseOfTheGoldenIdol is out if you don't already know and the first scenario is already brilliant, again.
I'm always amazed how they can get you from a state of "Huh? I don't even know the WORDS they're saying" to "Oh sure, that's how it all went down."
It's pure genius.

I've caught up with the DLCs for #TheRiseOfTheGoldenIdol now. Especially the second one has a puzzle where you have to incrementally decipher a plethora of cryptic symbols. Not gonna lie, I was pretty proud of myself when I figured it out.
Next, I'll start early on #FinalFantasyVI for #VGCJune2025. I'm planning to emulate the SNES version. Is that a good idea or is there a better "must play" version?
I'm going for the SNES release, because I can easily run that on my PS Vita -- meaning I can put the Vita to sleep whenever I want and I can play on the couch instead of using my laptop. 😁

Pretty much by accident I realized that DLC has been released for #TheRiseOfTheGoldenIdol. I rarely open Steam these days, but when I did to play Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3, I noticed the updates queued for Idol. 😅
I've now finished the first DLC The Sins of New Wells and it's a suitable expansion of the main game. I'm already looking forward to the second DLC, which is already out.
Again, I highly recommend playing the Golden Idol games, if you're into puzzles and haven't played them yet. 🤘 -

Sadly, #TheSinsOfNewWells, the first DLC of #TheRiseOfTheGoldenIdol is already done. And, again, it was such a great thing to play. So satisfying once you solved each of the four cases.
Can't wait for the next one.

I finished The Rise of the Golden Idol a few days ago.
It was good - I found it much more intuitive and thus easier than the first one. The new art style didn't bother me. It's not quite the same, of course, I missed some weirdness of the first one, and it felt too easy in places, comparatively.
All in all, it's a great investigation game with a couple of really unique puzzles I'd love to see in other games.

And it's a wrap! I'm not sure if I like #TheRiseOfTheGoldenIdol as much as the first game or maybe a tad less, but putting that aside it's still an amazing puzzle game.
I managed to figure out the mystery of the red eyes last night when I couldn't sleep. But it took me quite a while to figure out the gaps in the last puzzle. Once I had the right name, it unlocked everything in a nice "holy shit" moment. Not as powerful as the the ending of the first game, but still surprising.

And I'm done with chapters 4 and 5 of #TheRiseOfTheGoldenIdol.
Surprisingly this wasn't the end. My intention was to push through and finish the game this evening, but there's a final final final scenario with multiple screens and over 80 words! I'm not going near that at this hour. 😅
I'm having so much fun. The game pulls off the same feeling of "hmm...I thought this fits, but what if I switch it with...OH MY GOD!!! That changes everything" that I loved in the first game. -
Finished the 3rd chapter of #TheRiseOfTheGoldenIdol. Especially for the end-of-chapter puzzle, I felt like having played the first game gave me a huge leg up. You need to identify certain symbols and even though I totally forgot what they were, I remembered the generalities.
There's way less murdering going on in "Rise", which makes some scenarios feel like "huh, so what?" at first. But the story is intriguing and I'm excited to see where it'll go in the end. -

Oof. Finally finished #TheRiseOfTheGoldenIdol. Absolutely loved it and it was pretty tough! Harder than the first game as far as I recall, but it may be due to a few things being a tad too specific.
In the process of trying to solve some puzzles, I went back to different scenarios looking for clues or connections. In the process, I'm so impressed how consistent and well thought out the characters are across the scenarios.
I'm really looking forward to the DLCs!

Just saw „The Rise of the Golden Idol“ is already on Netflix. Haven’t bought it on Steam yet, because I’m not in the right head space at the moment. But maybe I’ll just check in, because I definitely do want to play it.
On a side note, I never got to finish the DLC for the first one, because I couldn’t figure out one riddle and was to proud (read: stupid) to look up a guide.

Really enjoyed my time with CotGI a few years ago, and I'm itching for a new detective game that runs well on my Steamdeck.
So yeah, this is me for the next week or two.

Finished »The Case of the Golden Idol.« That was fun! The last scenario took me a bit too long, but I’m pretty sure it was my fault.
