Idk how common this is elsewhere but hitting the Undo function during a corruption or scam attempt is a pretty common zero-zero no harm done tactic over here. Najib did the same too, except he swindled too much money to get another source to cover line and let bygones be bygones. 😂

I just received a legitimate looking verification request for certain payment service to my email address. It requested me to verify the payment with their app. There was no login link or anything else suspicious in the email and the email had originated from the real service. Except that I have never even heard about them before.

I believe this is so called “account fixation” attack where the scammers create an account, initiate some payment or other operation that needs to be confirmed and then replace their email address with that of the victims. The confirmation request then arrives to the victim. If they’re not vigilant (and might even have used the service for something before) they might complete the transaction without realizing what it was about. This is similar to webapp “session fixation” attack, but it requires the application to allow work flows that are susceptible to the attack (that is change of contact information while a payment is pending). #therewasanattempt #scam
